Yokowo Co., Ltd. (Headquarters: Chiyoda-ku, Tokyo; President: Katsuhei Yanagisawa) is pleased to announce that it has obtained SBT certification from the Science Based Targets initiative*1 (SBTi), recognizing that its greenhouse gas emission reduction targets are consistent with scientific evidence based on the Paris Agreement.
Yokowo has set a long-term goal of achieving carbon neutrality*2 (Scope 1 and 2*3) by FY2040, alongside mid-term targets for FY2030 to reduce emissions by 42% (Scope 1 and 2) and 25% (Scope 3*4) compared to FY2024 levels, and is actively working to reduce greenhouse gas emissions across its domestic and international business activities.
To achieve these targets, the Yokowo Group has been globally promoting the introduction and utilization of renewable energy in ways suited to the business characteristics of each country and region. The major initiatives implemented to date are as follows:
[Major Initiatives]
■ Vietnam Factory (YOKOWO VIETNAM CO., LTD., Location: Vietnam)
In October 2022, utilizing the Ministry of the Environment's Joint Crediting Mechanism, we introduced solar power generation facilities with an annual generation capacity of approximately 1.34 million kWh.
■ Japan / Tomioka Factory (Tomioka City, Gunma Prefecture)
In April 2023, we installed solar power generation facilities (annual generation capacity of approximately 380,000 kWh) on the roof of the new "Micro Process R&D Center" building. From April 2025, including the purchase of renewable electricity, all electricity used in the factory will be switched to renewable electricity, raising the renewable electricity ratio*5 from the previous 60% to 100%.
■ China Factory (Dongguan Youhua Auto Parts Co., Ltd., Location: Guangdong Province, China)
In May 2024, solar power generation facilities (annual generation capacity of approximately 1.7 million kWh) were installed on the roof of the production factory. Since January of this year, the majority of electricity used in the factory has been switched to renewable electricity through the purchase of renewable electricity utilizing Green Electricity Certificates*6.
■ Malaysia Factory (YOKOWO ELECTRONICS (M) SDN. BHD., Location: Kedah, Malaysia)
Solar power generation facilities using the PPA model (annual generation capacity of approximately 1.41 million kWh) have been introduced. Test operations began in December 2025, with official operations starting in January of this year.
■ Philippines Factory (YOKOWO MANUFACTURING OF THE PHILIPPINES, INC., Location: Bataan, Philippines)
Similar to other factories, we are considering the utilization of renewable energy.
The Yokowo Group positions the acquisition of SBT certification as a new starting line for its initiatives to reduce greenhouse gas emissions. Moving forward, we will continue to work on reducing greenhouse gas emissions throughout our business activities, including further expanding the use of renewable energy, to contribute to the realization of a sustainable society.
*1. Science Based Targets initiative: A joint initiative by CDP, the UN Global Compact, the World Resources Institute (WRI), and the World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF) that encourages companies to set greenhouse gas reduction targets aligned with the Paris Agreement, and evaluates and certifies them.
*2. Carbon Neutral: We are working to reduce greenhouse gas emissions based on the SBTi's net-zero standard.
