Yokohama Excellence Announces Retirement of Tatsuya Nishiyama and Appointment as Assistant General Manager

We are pleased to announce that Tatsuya Nishiyama has declared his retirement at the conclusion of the 2025-26 season, and will assume the role of Assistant General Manager (AGM) for Yokohama Excellence starting in the 2026-27 season.

I will be taking on the role of AGM starting next season.

This team is where I began my professional career. I played four years with Tokyo EX and four with Yokohama EX, totaling eight years with this organization. I am truly happy to have spent more than half of my professional career here.

I will do my best to give back to the team, little by little, as a way of expressing my gratitude.

Therefore, I kindly ask for your continued support for Yokohama EX.

I am deeply grateful to all the fans who have supported and stood by me throughout the years. Those who believed in me are "treasures for life." Thank you so much!!

Starting in the 2026-27 season, Yokohama Excellence has signed Tatsuya Nishiyama as Assistant General Manager (AGM).

During the club's founding years, he was instrumental in securing three consecutive NBDL championships. After the launch of the B.League, he led the team as a Japanese ace player.

Even after transferring to other clubs, he continued to shine with his beautiful shooting form, unique rhythm, sharp drives, and clever tactics that baffled countless defenders. Upon his return to Excellence, he became a dependable veteran and an indispensable presence within the team.

Over the years, many players who have played alongside Yokohama Excellence have been captivated by Nishiyama's basketball sense. His kind personality and sincere character earned him deep trust from teammates and staff alike.

Leveraging his experience as a point guard, he calmed the team on the court and consistently looked after the entire organization off the court, acting in the best interest of the club. We have been helped countless times by his presence.

I still vividly remember the moment he achieved his 400th career three-pointer in B2, when teammates, fans, and the entire arena united in celebration. That moment was proof of the excellence of his career and the deep affection people hold for him.

As GM, I firmly believe that Tatsuya Nishiyama will continue to play a vital role in the club’s future growth.

Moving forward, Yokohama Excellence must deepen its connection with its hometown of Yokohama and Kanagawa, growing as a community-rooted club. We must also uncover hidden talent across the region and throughout Japan, and create an environment where that talent can thrive.

I believe Nishiyama is someone who can make a significant impact not only as a player but also in a leadership role supporting the club. I trust he will become a bridge between the community and the club, connecting people and helping build the club’s future.

To the fans who have supported Tatsuya Nishiyama, and to those who hoped to see him continue playing, we sincerely apologize that this retirement announcement may have come as a surprise.

However, after careful consideration from multiple perspectives, I concluded that Nishiyama can best contribute to the club’s future not as a player, but as an Assistant General Manager.

Tatsuya Nishiyama, who has supported the club from the court, will now contribute from the front office to help Yokohama Excellence grow and thrive.
