YKK AP30 Building Achieves 'ZEB' and 'WELL Certification' Platinum

YKK AP Inc. (Headquarters: Chiyoda-ku, Tokyo; President: Akira Uozu) is pleased to announce that the YKK AP30 Building (Kurobe City, Toyama Prefecture), which houses the headquarters for its manufacturing division and some corporate functions, has achieved 'ZEB' (*1) status—a building that achieves net-zero annual primary energy consumption—and the highest 'Platinum' rank in the 'WELL Building Standard™' (*2), an international evaluation system focused on the health and well-being of building occupants. To commemorate this, a completion plaque was installed on the building premises in mid-March.

Completed in 2024, the YKK AP30 Building was designed under the concept of an 'office in the forest,' prioritizing the natural environment and the health and well-being of its employees. In November 2024, it received the highest 6-star rating in the BELS evaluation (*3) to achieve 'ZEB' status, and in November 2025, it attained the highest 'Platinum' rank in the 'WELL Certification,' a global standard that incorporates human health and happiness into building design and operation.

While 'ZEB' certification requires high thermal insulation for the building envelope, 'WELL Certification' encourages the use of openings to allow for natural light and views. Achieving both requires maintaining high thermal insulation while incorporating these openings. The YKK AP30 Building utilizes the company's own 'SYSTEMA 31' full-height building windows to create a bright, open space while maximizing the energy efficiency of the entire building. By doing so, the company has pursued both 'reduction of environmental impact' and a 'healthy and comfortable office,' achieving the highest standards for both certifications. It is said that 'people spend 90% of their lives indoors' (*4). By optimizing the workplace environment where employees spend much of their time, we have created a space where they can perform at their best in a safe, secure, and comfortable manner.
