Yamanashi Chuo Bank (President: Yoshiaki Furuya) and Yamanashi Chugin Management Consulting (President: Fuminori Itono), in collaboration with the Development Bank of Japan (President: Seiji Chikada) and the Japan Economic Research Institute (President: Kazushige Ikeda), have published a research report titled 'Survey on Carbon Neutral Trends in Yamanashi Prefecture.'
As a financial group based in Yamanashi Prefecture, where forests cover approximately 80% of the land and water resources are abundant, we recognize that passing on a rich natural environment to future generations is our important social responsibility. We will contribute to the realization of a sustainable local society.
Summary of the Survey
Yamanashi Prefecture is promoting advanced renewable energy measures, such as solar power generation and green hydrogen production/utilization, toward the goal of achieving carbon neutrality (CN) by 2050. In particular, the 'Yamanashi P2G System,' led by the prefecture, is expected to advance decarbonization as one of Japan's largest green hydrogen production projects, stabilizing the power grid and supplying hydrogen to regional industries.
While CN initiatives are currently centered on the prefecture and large corporations, the participation of diverse entities such as small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) and industries beyond manufacturing, like agriculture and tourism, is essential in the future.
In this report, CN promotion in Yamanashi is organized into three perspectives: 'Preservation and Regeneration of the Natural Environment,' 'Transformation of the Energy Structure,' and 'Sustainability Promotion of Regional Industries and Local Companies.' First, emphasizing concepts such as Nature Positive and Water Positive utilizing rich natural resources, the report proposes balancing biodiversity conservation with climate change measures. Second, the expansion of hydrogen and renewable energy through systems like the Yamanashi P2G System will require energy transformation in the industrial sector and the establishment of efficient supply systems.
Furthermore, for the maintenance and strengthening of supply chains and value chains of regional industries and local companies, it is crucial for various stakeholders in Yamanashi to collaborate. In agriculture and tourism, the report suggests strengthening information dissemination to tourists by reflecting CN efforts as economic value in products and services to increase sustainability, as well as improving tourist circulation within the prefecture to extend stay durations and increase per-capita consumption.
