Yamaha Launches New "ARIUS" Entry-Model Digital Pianos Pursuing Realistic Grand Piano Touch and Sound

Yamaha Corporation (hereinafter referred to as "the Company") will release new models in its basic digital piano series "ARIUS" (Arius), which focuses on the sound and resonance of a grand piano: "YDP-166", "YDP-146", "YDP-S56", and "YDP-S36" on Thursday, June 25th.

"ARIUS" is an entry-series digital piano that allows you to enjoy high-quality piano performance, unique to a piano manufacturer, in your home. It is suitable for a wide range of users, from children starting piano lessons to adults enjoying playing as a hobby.

The "ARIUS" models to be released this time adopt keyboards that pursue the touch of a grand piano and a new speaker system, allowing you to enjoy authentic performances as if playing a grand piano. Improvements in the newly designed keyboard and sensors achieve stable key touch and excellent response, from powerful playing to delicate expressions. Furthermore, the adoption of a new speaker system provides clear and expansive sound that resonates naturally across all frequency ranges, offering a comfortable sound field not only to the performer but also to the listener. Additionally, all models are equipped with Bluetooth® functionality, further expanding the enjoyment of playing and practicing through connectivity with smart devices.

The "YDP-166" and "YDP-S56" are equipped with the newly developed "GrandTouch-™ Keyboard", realizing a realistic touch and response similar to that of a grand piano. It allows for natural expression from delicate pianissimo to powerful fortissimo, enabling you to play a variety of songs as you intend with a stable touch.

The "YDP-146" and "YDP-S36" adopt the Graded Hammer Standard (GHS) keyboard. It is designed to have an appropriate weight in the low register and become lighter towards the high register, achieving a natural and balanced playing feel across all registers. Furthermore, improvements in sensor design more accurately reflect the player's intentions even in rapid repetitions and complex phrases.

2. Clear and rich sound produced by a new speaker system

Leveraging years of research into the sound production mechanisms of grand pianos and expertise gained from developing professional audio equipment and systems, Yamaha has achieved a clear and rich sound despite the compact size of the digital piano. The adoption of a diffuser grille that widely disperses sound in all directions delivers high-frequency sounds clearly over long distances, while the balanced sound across all registers naturally spreads throughout the space, providing a comfortable sound field for both the performer and the listener.

3. Equipped with a full range of features to expand the enjoyment of playing

All models are equipped with Bluetooth functionality, allowing you to play audio data from smart devices through the instrument's speakers and wirelessly connect to Yamaha's "Smart Pianist" app. The "Smart Pianist" app also newly supports a guide function. The accompaniment waits until the correct note is played, allowing you to practice steadily at your own pace. Additionally, a "Medal Challenge" feature has been added, where the app automatically evaluates your performance and awards medals. By visualizing the sense of accomplishment, it supports motivation for daily practice.
