Louis Poulsen Unveils Limited Edition 'PH Centenary Collection' to Mark 100th Anniversary of 'System PH'

Otsuka Kagu Co., Ltd. Interior Furniture Division (hereinafter Otsuka Kagu) has begun handling the special 'PH Centenary Collection' from the Danish lighting brand 'Louis Poulsen,' founded in 1874. This collection commemorates the 100th anniversary of the revolutionary lighting design, 'System PH.'

About System PH

In 1926, designer, architect, and cultural critic Poul Henningsen (1894–1967) developed the iconic '3-shade system.' This innovative design system, later known as 'System PH,' is based on meticulously calculated shade configurations, ideal angles, and a rational form. This design philosophy, which shields against bulb glare and delivers high-quality light where needed, continues to be at the core of Louis Poulsen's lighting design. To celebrate this momentous 100th anniversary, the 'PH Centenary Collection' was born, conveying Poul Henningsen's heritage design to the present day. This model is a revival of a masterpiece, once affectionately known as the 'Bombardment Chandelier,' which was featured in Louis Poulsen's catalog from 1933 to the mid-1960s. It is the first time the smallest 'PH 1/1' from 'System PH' has been revived, featuring a body made of aged brass with delicate hairline processing, combined with dusty terracotta mouth-blown opal glass. Its compact yet dense and beautiful light illuminates any space. Each product is hand-engraved with a serial number and is a collector's item available only in world-limited quantities.

Based on an early model announced in 1927, this product faithfully adheres to the original '3-shade system' established by Poul Henningsen in 1926, bringing it back to life in the modern era. It features a specification combining an amber glass top shade with opal glass middle and bottom shades. The glass shades, polished on the outside and sandblasted matte on the inside, create a comfortable light that suppresses glare. When lit, the warm amber light spreading upwards and the soft white light reaching downwards blend exquisitely, bringing rich expression and accent to the space. The base and pillar are made of lacquered aged brass, whose subdued texture, combined with the amber glass, evokes a vintage feel that tells the story of 100 years.
