xID Inc. (Headquarters: Chiyoda-ku, Tokyo; President and CEO: Hikaru Kusaka; hereinafter "the Company") has signed a basic agreement with Mirairo Inc. (Headquarters: Yodogawa-ku, Osaka; President and CEO: Shunya Kakiuchi; hereinafter "Mirairo"), operator of the digital disability certificate "Mirairo ID", to establish a strategic partnership aimed at realizing inclusive GovTech services.
Through this partnership, xID will integrate its digital postal service "SmartPOST" with Mirairo ID, aiming to create an environment where individuals with disabilities can securely receive important administrative notifications from local governments anytime and anywhere.
◾️ Background of the Partnership
The Japanese government is currently advancing initiatives to realize "push-type administration," delivering necessary information to each resident at the appropriate time. However, paper-based notifications still pose significant accessibility challenges, particularly for individuals with visual impairments, making content verification burdensome.
Additionally, rising postal fees and other factors have increased demand among local governments for more efficient notification processes and reduced mailing costs.
xID has previously provided "SmartPOST," a digital postal service that uses My Number Cards for identity verification to deliver important notifications directly from local governments to residents.
By combining Mirairo ID’s user base of over 600,000 users with Mirairo’s expertise in accessibility, this partnership aims to build a digital notification infrastructure that enables access to essential administrative information for everyone, regardless of disability status.
◾️ Key Initiatives Under the Partnership
1. Integration with Mirairo ID to Provide a Digital Mailbox Function
xID will integrate SmartPOST with Mirairo ID to build a system enabling users to receive important notifications from local governments directly within the Mirairo ID app.
2. Realizing an Inclusive Notification Experience
To ensure diverse users, including those with visual impairments, can accurately and smoothly understand notification content, the partnership will promote inclusive (accessibility) features such as voice reading.
3. Joint Development of a Municipal Integration Option
The companies will jointly propose a "SmartPOST Mirairo ID Integration Option" (provisional name) to local governments as a comprehensive digital notification solution that includes support for people with disabilities.
◾️ Expected Benefits of the Initiative
Local Governments
Enable more comprehensive digitalization of administrative notifications, including improved information delivery to people with disabilities.
Residents (People with Disabilities)
With Mirairo ID, residents can receive notifications from local governments anytime, anywhere, significantly improving convenience for people with disabilities:
Physical Disabilities: Individuals who face difficulty with physical actions such as retrieving mail from a mailbox, opening envelopes, or turning pages can access information directly on their smartphones.
Visual Impairments: Even when unable to access information from paper mail, users can understand content stress-free through voice reading functions.
Developmental Disabilities: Users who struggle with organizing and storing large volumes of paper documents—often leading to lost mail or missed deadlines—can benefit from automatic organization and storage of past notifications within the app, reducing the risk of oversight or loss.
Intellectual Disabilities: For those who find complex administrative language difficult to understand, the ability to copy and paste text directly into translation tools allows them to grasp content at their own pace.
xID
Strengthen inclusive capabilities in administrative digitalization, advancing efforts to ensure reliable information delivery to a broader range of residents.
