With the onboarding season in April, many new employees feel anxious about their new environment and relationships.
At WAVE Co., Ltd. (Headquarters: Toshima-ku, Tokyo, CEO: Kota Sekiguchi), which operates electronic comic and anime production businesses, we are promoting a 'Strategic Internal Communication Measure' to enhance psychological safety in order to eliminate these hurdles upon joining the company.
Under our corporate philosophy of 'Members continuing to grow until age 65', we conduct unique internal events utilizing working hours, going beyond mere socialization.
Through these efforts, we are realizing an environment where new employees can demonstrate their abilities with peace of mind.
## About WAVE's Internal Communication
Our company, which started with 3 people at its establishment in 2010, has now grown to a scale of about 230 members. However, as the organization expands, there are concerns about the emergence of issues such as 'silos' and a 'decline in the sense of belonging' among employees.
Furthermore, creating an environment where newly joined employees can smoothly adapt to this expanded organization and demonstrate their true potential has become an urgent task.
We aim to solve these issues through 'Strategic Internal Communication', leading to the incidental creation of innovation and the prevention of turnover, thereby building a strong organizational foundation.
As a result, more than 70% of our members responded that 'the existence of internal events is one of the reasons they feel they want to continue working at this company'.
## 'Company-wide Event Day' where operations stop and about 150 employees participate
Currently, with about 220 employees enrolled, the 'Company-wide Event Day', held about once every 3 months by temporarily suspending all employees' work, is a large-scale internal event with about 150 participants each time.
By daring to hold it during working hours rather than as a typical drinking party or holiday event, we have created an environment where everyone, including employees raising children, can participate.
This event is positioned as 'organizational investment' that encourages interaction across departments and positions and enhances the organization's sense of unity.
### An internal sports day won not by physical strength but by 'communication volume'
One of the popular projects on Event Day is the internal sports day held with original rules.
Unlike general sports, it is designed so that 'communication volume' naturally increases, aiming to promote team building across departments and positions.
[Competition Examples]
- Giant Baton Relay
A competition where a team carries a baton about 2 meters long.
It's difficult for one person to handle, so you naturally need to proceed while calling out to each other.
- Egg-shaped Giant Ball Rolling
Using an unstable-shaped ball results in unpredictable movements, requiring cooperative play where the team follows up with each other.
- Chanbara (Sword Fighting)
A simple competition where participants pop each other's paper balloons, but everyone participates seriously regardless of their position.
