The World Wide Fund for Nature Japan (WWF Japan; Minato-ku, Tokyo; Chairman: Takejirō Sueyoshi) has joined forces with Saraya Co., Ltd. (Osaka; President & CEO: Yusuke Saraya), Taiyo Yushi Co., Ltd. (Yokohama, Kanagawa; President & CEO: Satoru Nakayama), and Culture Convenience Club Co., Ltd. (CCC; Yokohama, Kanagawa; President & CEO: Honzuru Takahashi), supporting CCC's co-creation platform 'Minna no Ethical Food Lab' (https://ethicalfoodlab.tsite.jp/). As part of this initiative, a pop-up store event themed around the RSPO certification—a global standard for sustainably produced palm oil that respects tropical forests, wildlife, and human rights—will be held at Shonan T-SITE (Fujisawa, Kanagawa) from Wednesday, June 17, 2026, to Tuesday, June 30, 2026.

The theme of this project is 'palm oil'. Palm oil is a vegetable oil derived from oil palm trees grown in Indonesia and Malaysia, and is used in a wide range of everyday products such as detergents, soaps, snacks, bread, and instant noodles. While it is highly efficient to produce and the most widely used vegetable oil globally, its increasing demand has led to various social and environmental issues, including deforestation, loss of wildlife habitats, and human rights violations.

Under the slogan 'Every wash is a choice to protect forests and animals,' the event will feature RSPO-certified products alongside educational displays and book recommendations that clearly explain environmental issues and biodiversity. The space is designed to naturally spark visitors’ interest in RSPO certification, allowing them to deepen their understanding while interacting with the products.

WWF Japan hopes that visitors will realize how their daily choices—such as food, detergents, and soaps—are connected to forests and wildlife. The organization also aims to convey the joy of choosing products not only based on scent, taste, or price, but also through the lens of environmental responsibility.

About RSPO Certification

RSPO certification is an international standard for sustainably produced palm oil that takes into account tropical forests, wildlife, and human rights. The standard was established and is managed by the Roundtable on Sustainable Palm Oil (RSPO), founded in 2004. The RSPO was initiated by WWF and created through dialogue among companies and organizations involved in the palm oil industry. Diverse stakeholders define the criteria, and palm oil sustainability is certified based on these standards.

Comments from Representatives

Akiko Minami, Palm Oil Project Leader, Forests Group, WWF Japan

'While more Japanese companies are offering sustainable products, there are few opportunities to communicate the efforts behind them to consumers. Since “everyday shopping is a vote,” we want to share information widely so people can make informed choices. We are delighted that this event can contribute to that goal.'

Nozomi Takita, Leader, 'Minna no Ethical Food Lab', CCC

'CCC’s mission is to build “cultural infrastructure.” We have long promoted lifestyles that enrich connections between people and society. With 'Minna no Ethical Food Lab,' we aim to create experiences that allow people to learn about social issues through food and enjoy making choices that reflect their values.'

Yuseyo Aoshima, Communications Division, Saraya Co., Ltd.

'Saraya was the first Japanese company to undergo RSPO certification in 2010, obtaining Segregation (identity preserved) certification. Today, our consumer products are 100% certified under the Book & Claim (Credit) system, and we display the certification mark on our products as standard. We hope RSPO awareness grows and contributes to preserving tropical rainforest biodiversity.'

Toshiaki Higashiyama, Sustainability Promotion Team, Taiyo Yushi Co., Ltd.

'Palm oil is an invisible ingredient, yet it brings many benefits. We hope this event helps people understand the challenges it poses and the efforts companies are making, serving as a bridge to a better future.'
