After serving as a special rescue team member in the Tokyo Fire Department, he held positions such as instructor at the Saitama Prefectural Firefighting School and chief of the Fukaya Fire Station. He retired in March 2020 as chief of the Fukaya City Fire Department.

After retiring from the fire service, he combined his "life-saving knowledge" cultivated in the field with the legal expertise of a "gyoseishoshi" (administrative scrivener), a national qualification, to begin consulting specializing in disaster prevention and crisis management.

He established "Arms Rescue Co., Ltd." and "Akira Tanaka Administrative Scrivener Office," providing effective BCP (Business Continuity Plan) development and practical disaster prevention training to private companies, educational institutions including international schools, municipalities, and chambers of commerce, as well as fire investigation.

Furthermore, due to his proven track record and clear explanation skills, he is widely active as a disaster commentator on TV information programs and as a supervisor for fire-related visuals in movies and dramas.
