App Development Platform Base44 Launches Proprietary LLM "Base 1", a Key Milestone in its Technical Vision

Wix.com Ltd. (NASDAQ: WIX), a leading platform for building, managing, and growing digital presences, announced that its AI-powered app development platform, Base44, has launched its first proprietary AI model (Large Language Model/LLM), "Base 1." The model is already operational in production and is being used by users on the platform. This announcement marks a significant milestone in Base44's evolution from an AI-powered platform to a full-stack AI company that handles everything from data accumulation and infrastructure building to model training and implementation in-house.

"Base 1" is developed and optimized using vast, proprietary data, composed of tens of millions of actual user interaction records generated on the platform. As a result, it already demonstrates competitive performance compared to previously used foundation models, and with continued learning from Base44's ever-expanding data, it has the potential to surpass them.

While many companies train models for limited, single-purpose use, Base44 has built a general-purpose AI agent capable of handling both dialogue and coding, including complex multi-turn interactions, tool usage, runtime management, and backend processing.

Base44's ability to build and deploy its own models is the result of planned investments in several key areas:

Talent: Wix's world-class data science and research teams have cultivated deep expertise through learning Wix Harmony, and are applying this knowledge to Base44's LLM development.

Data: Base44 accumulates vast, high-quality data from production traffic and user interactions, providing unique and powerful learning signals for its models tailored to Base44's use cases.

Infrastructure: The company has built robust sandboxing capabilities, evaluation frameworks, and experimental pipelines, enabling real-time validation of various agent configurations for deployment on live traffic.

Development System: Wix and Base44 have collaborated with top-tier inference providers to develop the system to operate with the performance, reliability, and scale that users demand.

By owning its model stack (the entire technology infrastructure from model to operation), Base44 can directly manage the costs of computation and inference, one of the largest cost drivers for AI-native companies, while simultaneously continuing to enhance the quality of outcomes delivered to users. This announcement is a meaningful step for Base44, and as the model is gradually introduced, it is expected to structurally improve profitability in the long term.
