With Midwife Inc. (Headquarters: Osaka, CEO: Mizuki Kishihata) will host a daycare program for fathers titled "Postpartum Care Experience for Dads" at "Jicca Nakano" (Nakano-ku, Tokyo), a prenatal and postpartum care house that offers a 'home-like' environment rather than a hotel or medical facility. The program will run for four days only, from March 28 (Sat) to March 31 (Tue), 2026.
This program aims to move beyond the idea that postpartum care is 'only for moms' by addressing the 'invisible burdens' often faced by fathers, such as sleep deprivation, balancing work and childcare, anxiety, and marital friction. In a private, fully enclosed space, participants can secure rest time, receive mini-counseling from midwives to address their anxieties, and learn practical childcare skills (such as holding, putting the baby to sleep, and playing) that can be used immediately at home.
This initiative is supported by the Daddy Support Association, and participants will receive a father-child handbook leaflet. Additionally, they will be gifted a copy of the book 'Survival Guide for Working Parents,' authored by the representative of the company operating Jicca Nakano.
Background: Postpartum care is not just for moms. While the mother's physical and mental recovery is the top priority, fathers also face significant pressure, sleep deprivation, and anxiety during this period of rapid environmental change. According to the Daddy Support Association, 76.5% of fathers feel mental strain during the first year of parenting, and 41.8% have experienced mental health issues. This is especially true for those who cannot take paternity leave or only take short leave, making the balance with work difficult and increasing the risk of family fatigue and conflict as mothers return to work.
Jicca Nakano aims to be a 'home-like' space where families living in the city can 'rest, delegate, and learn' during the prenatal and postpartum periods. Through this program, we propose a path to support the entire family's start to the postpartum period by helping fathers transition from 'helping' to 'being capable.'
With Midwife, led by midwives and other professionals, is dedicated to supporting postpartum recovery and the start of childcare.
