Wick Inc. (CEO: Kenken Nakamichi), the operator of the Japan-born SNS integrated sales platform "Wick," has agreed to establish a joint venture in Bangladesh named "Grameen-Wick SPARK" with Grameen Communications, the IT core company of the Grameen Group led by Nobel Peace Prize laureate Dr. Muhammad Yunus, who served as Chief Advisor to the Interim Government of the People's Republic of Bangladesh from August 2024 to February 2026. A MOU signing ceremony was held in Dhaka on June 28, 2026.
The joint venture, "Grameen-Wick SPARK," will deploy a social networking service platform that transforms corporate advertising expenses directly into funds for people's "food," "education," and "healthcare" across Bangladesh, a country with a population of approximately 170 million, thereby tackling major challenges such as poverty and inequality.
Transforming Outflowing Corporate "Advertising Expenses" into Funds to Support Livelihoods
Currently, many people worldwide own smartphones, generating enormous advertising revenue based on their usage time. However, a significant portion of these advertising expenses paid by corporations goes to a very small number of global platforms.
It is estimated that approximately 80 billion yen annually in advertising expenses are flowing out to such platforms within Bangladesh alone.
A System Developed in Japan Tackles Global Issues
Wick was born from the desire to create a place where creators can focus on their work with peace of mind and make a living from their passions. To achieve this, we have built a system, with the cooperation of our users in Japan, that allows income earned from displaying advertisements to be directly used as operational funds, returning value to creators with 0% commission and protecting their work.
The core principle behind this is the idea that "the value created by each individual should be returned to that individual."
This joint venture is a new challenge to expand that concept beyond services for creators to society as a whole. We aim to connect the system and philosophy cultivated in Japan to the resolution of social issues such as poverty and inequality that the world faces.
What the Joint Venture "Grameen-Wick SPARK" Aims to Achieve
The new company, "Grameen-Wick SPARK (Social Platform for Advancement, Resilience and Knowledge)," aims to create a society where everyone can secure a foundation for their livelihood and education through a system that allows income earned in exchange for advertising to be allocated to daily food, medical expenses, and learning materials such as textbooks.
These initiatives are an attempt to evolve the philosophy of microfinance and social business, which Dr. Yunus has demonstrated for half a century at Grameen Bank, into a form that anyone can practice on a digital foundation.
