West Japan Railway Company (JR West) announced that its joint project with hab Inc., the 'Transport-Extended After-School,' has been selected for the Children and Families Agency's 'Fiscal 2026 Model Project for Building Elementary Student Care Functions Utilizing Corporate Vitality.'
This project is the first commercialization under JR West Group's 'Bernal' business co-creation program, combining hab's transport platform with JR West Group's assets. The first school opened on May 11, 2026, at Sumido Station on the Gakkentoshi Line. With this selection, the companies will proceed to verify the business model's effectiveness and contribute to the realization of 'lively towns where people come and go' through future expansion.
In addition to traditional homework support and play areas, the service leverages station connectivity to provide transport to enrichment facilities and unique JR West learning/experience programs. It addresses time, travel, and safety concerns for dual-income households, fostering children's curiosity and sense of inquiry.
Currently, the 'Nenrin Project,' jointly operated by JR West and hab, is accepting applications for a summer school program:
