The Japan Railway Station Bento Association (Nihon Tetsudo Kounai Eigyo Chuo Kai) established April 10th as "Ekiben Day" in 1993 (Heisei 5) with the aim of passing down the culture of ekiben, which has long been cherished as a pleasure of train travel, to the future.
Ekiben have developed as a travel specialty since the Meiji era and have been loved by many customers as a symbol of regional food culture. Ekiben Day was established as an anniversary to re-examine this historic culture and allow more people to learn about its charm. The date is set as April 10th = Bento Day, because the character "ben" (弁) is composed of "4" and "ten," and "tou" (当), meaning "to be," sounds like "ten" (十).
To commemorate "Ekiben Day," JR Shikoku Station Development Co., Ltd., in collaboration with JR West Food Service Net, will hold the "Travel Bento Ekiben Bustle x Takamatsu Ekiben Ekiben Convention" at Takamatsu Station for the second time. In addition to "popular ekiben" from across the country, the highly acclaimed "EXPO2025 Myak Myak Tako-meshi" (limited to 100 units per day) will reappear. Furthermore, we will offer a variety of ekiben, including the "Tako-meshi" series, the debut in Shikoku "Piyorin Tabi-tomo Bento," and the trending "Love Live! Nijigasaki High School Idol Club x Maneki Food Collaboration Santō Aji Meguri Bento." For seafood options, we offer popular items such as "crab," "scallop," and "shrimp," as well as "octopus," "conger eel," and "sea bream." Related products such as "crab miso," "ika meshi (retort)," and "Tako-meshi lid" will also be sold.
We hope you will enjoy the culinary culture of railways and the charm of travel through ekiben.
