West Japan Railway Company (Osaka Prefecture, Osaka City, Kita Ward, President and Representative Director: Shoji Kurasaka) is advancing initiatives to enhance the appeal of stations in collaboration with local communities, by pursuing innovation and transforming customer services, in order to realize the future station envisioned in our "Station Vision." *1 In response to the growing social movement to promote the use of wood in recent years, from the perspective of achieving a decarbonized society, we have adopted a CLT (Cross Laminated Timber) structure *2 for the rebuilding of the aging Sanyo Main Line Ohtake Station. This station building, which utilizes a CLT structure that combines sufficient structural quality with a warm texture, is an advanced initiative as there are still few examples nationwide.

Since panels processed at a factory are assembled on-site, on-site construction time can be shortened.

1. Overview of the New Station Building The design of the station building is intended to frame the scenic views of the Seto Inland Sea, islands, and the landscape of Suo Oshima, a tourist attraction, within the station space. It is an open and scenic station where visitors can enjoy views of the sea, bridges, and islands while feeling the warmth of the wood. We also aimed to create a comfortable waiting area by using CLT for the benches, allowing visitors to feel the warmth of the wood even more. Measures such as the adoption of highly durable exterior materials and detailed design of eaves and joints have been implemented to protect against wind and rain and minimize maintenance burdens. We will continue to actively engage in the creation of station buildings that are considerate of the local community and the environment. 2. Construction Location Ohtake Station, JR Sanyo Line (Yanai City, Yamaguchi Prefecture) 3. Construction Period January 2025 – March 2026 *The station building section has been available for use since Saturday, November 1, 2025.
