The Japanese Standards Association (JSA, Headquarters: Minato-ku, Tokyo; President: Hiroshi Asahi) will establish the "Center for Promotion of International Standardization Strategy" effective April 1, 2026.

【Background of Establishment】 This center is being established to facilitate the early realization of recommendations set forth in the "Japan-Style Standardization Acceleration Model 2025" (June 2025) formulated by the Japanese Industrial Standards Committee (JISC), as well as the interim report (March 2026) from the "Standardization Ecosystem Study Group" (Chair: Hirofumi Tatsumoto, Professor at the University of Tsukuba) established by the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry (METI). Its purpose is to act as a specialized organization to actively support and deploy strategic standardization activities in specific fields led by the government.

Specifically, we will work in cooperation with relevant stakeholders to promote standardization activities in the five pilot fields*1 identified by METI as targets for strategic standardization, such as hydrogen/ammonia and data linkage infrastructure. At the same time, we aim to engage in agile strategy formulation and flexible standardization activities across a wide range of important fields, including AI, robotics, and materials. Through these efforts, we will contribute to securing domestic and international markets through international standards.

JSA has already established the "Circular Economy Standardization Platform (CESP)"*2 in August 2025, in collaboration with the Japan Industrial Management and Association, to serve as a venue for information sharing regarding rule-making, such as standardization and regulatory compliance related to the circular economy, and has been conducting activities such as relay seminars. We will continue to work closely with relevant organizations to powerfully drive Japan's international standardization activities.

As JSA reaches its 80th anniversary, we will maximize the synergy of our functions by organically integrating the existing Standard Consulting Center and the JSA Global Research Center with this new center, forming "three pillars." By leveraging the achievements and know-how in research and standards development cultivated to date, we will further strengthen the consolidation of knowledge and the securing of specialized human resources.
