The General Incorporated Foundation, Japanese Standards Association (JSA, Headquarters: Minato-ku, Tokyo, President: Hiroshi Asahi) will establish the 'Center for Promotion of International Standardization Strategy' on April 1, 2026.

Establishment Background

This center is established to accelerate the realization of the 'Japan-Type Standardization Acceleration Model 2025' (June 2025) formulated by the Japanese Industrial Standards Committee (JISC), and the recommendations from the 'Study Group on Standardization Ecosystem' (Chair: Hirofumi Tateno, Professor, University of Tsukuba) established by the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry (interim report in March 2026). The purpose is to actively support and promote strategic standardization activities in specific fields led by the government as a specialized organization.

Specifically, we will promote standardization activities in the five pilot fields*1 designated by the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry for strategic standardization, such as hydrogen/ammonia and data linkage platforms, in collaboration with stakeholders. In addition, we aim for agile strategy formulation and flexible standardization activities in a wide range of important fields such as AI/robotics and materials. We will contribute to acquiring domestic and international markets through international standards.

JSA has already established the 'Circular Economy Standardization Platform (CESP)'*2 in August 2025, jointly with the Japan Environmental Management Association, as a forum for information sharing on standardization and rule-making for regulatory compliance related to the circular economy, and has been engaged in activities such as relay lectures. We will continue to work closely with related organizations to strongly lead Japan's international standardization activities.

On the occasion of its 80th anniversary, JSA will maximize the synergy of each function by organically integrating the functions of the existing Standard Consulting Center and the JSA Global Research Center as 'three pillars,' while making full use of the achievements and know-how in research and standard development cultivated so far. We will further strengthen the aggregation of knowledge and the securing of specialized human resources.

*1 Pilot 5 Fields:
