The restaurant has been ranked 6th in the 'World’s Best Steak Restaurants 101' for 2026, a list that evaluates 300,000 steak restaurants worldwide. Casa Julian moved up from 7th place in 2025 to 6th in 2026. This recognition is a testament to their signature 'Chuleta'—a thick-cut, mature beef steak seasoned generously with sea salt and grilled over charcoal. Additionally, Casa Julian has earned '2 Soles' in the Repsol Guide, the Spanish equivalent of the Michelin Guide. Founded in 1954, the restaurant is located in the mountains, about 30 minutes from San Sebastian, and is open for only about three hours a day. Despite these conditions, it remains a destination for foodies and travelers worldwide. Founder Julian Rivas dedicated his life to creating the 'perfect Chuleta,' collaborating with local surgeons for meat cutting techniques and metalworkers for specialized grill designs. The unique charcoal grilling method, combined with high-quality European mature beef (aged 30+ months), creates a flavor profile previously unavailable in Japan. The Tokyo branch will open in Minami-Aoyama, with reservations expected to start in October 2026.
