■ Overview of the Agreement
This agreement was concluded with the aim of promoting the drinking of tap water and comprehensively advancing the reduction of plastic waste through the collaboration between Mito City and the Company.
The Company will cooperate with Mito City's initiative to 'install water dispensers compatible with reusable bottles (My Bottles),' aiming to encourage a return to the tap by making citizens recognize the deliciousness and safety of tap water through tap-connected water dispensers. In particular, we will focus on educating children, who are the future generation, to simultaneously reduce environmental impact by cutting down on single-use plastics through the habituation of using personal bottles.
Both parties will work together to contribute to the creation of a sustainable society alongside the citizens and the development of a water environment that can be passed down to future generations.
■ Comment from Mito City Mayor Yasushi Takahashi
In Mito City, we have been communicating the deliciousness and safety of tap water to our citizens through events and public relations magazines.
With this new initiative, by installing water dispensers as a measure to promote tap water drinking, we aim to create an environment where people can easily drink tap water even when they are out, allowing them to rediscover how good tap water tastes.
Furthermore, we will link this to the reduction of plastic waste by promoting the use of reusable bottles.
Moving forward, we will continue to collaborate with Waterstand Co., Ltd. to raise awareness of this initiative and promote the drinking of tap water.
■ About Waterstand
The water-purifying dispenser 'Waterstand' is highly supported by individual households—especially families raising children—corporations working towards achieving the SDGs, and universities. This is due to its high convenience, offering delicious drinking water anytime without the need for bottles, and its eco-friendly water supply system that eliminates the need for transportation and disposable containers.
・Our initiatives to reduce single-use plastic bottles
With the mission of reducing 3 billion single-use plastic bottles, our company is promoting the 'Bottle Free Project' with local governments and boards of education nationwide, including Mito City. Our 'Bottle Free Project' aims to promote the use of personal bottles by setting up low-environmental-impact water supply stands utilizing universally accessible tap water.
Through this activity, we realize both the mitigation of global warming through the reduction of single-use plastics and CO2 emissions, and adaptation to climate change through damage prevention (like heatstroke) and health promotion via hydration. While calling on various organizations and groups to cooperate with this initiative, we will expand similar efforts across Japan.
