On March 28, 2026 (Saturday), WAT Inc. (Headquarters: Meguro-ku, Tokyo; CEO: Yasushi Ishiwatari) will open the rooftop dining venue 'LAUBE' on the 6th floor, the top level of the new cultural facility 'MoN Takanawa: The Museum of Narratives' in the Takanawa Gateway area.
The name 'LAUBE' is German for 'a hut in the shade of grass.' Responding to the museum's role as an experimental ground for connecting culture to the next 100 years, we propose an unprecedented experience where nature, plants, and the pulse of the city coexist, despite being in the heart of the metropolis.
Beyond the water's surface, the Shinkansen runs
LAUBE is symbolized by a landscape that connects the sky and the city. A water basin reminiscent of an infinity pool spreads out, and beyond its surface lies the Shinagawa rail yard, Shinkansen tracks, and National Route 1—a view where Japan's major arteries move incessantly, and where departures and daily life intersect. Designed by Hideyuki Nakayama Architecture, the interior design blurs the boundary between inside and outside, naturally inviting guests to the terrace alongside soft plantings centered on native species.
Rather than a symbolic night view looked down upon from a skyscraper, this is a place to feel the 'life-sized breath of the city' at a distance that feels within reach. It is a space that offers a comfortable 'margin' within the busy urban life.
