The research and development wheeled robot series manufactured by Vstone Co., Ltd. are robot platforms that can be utilized for research and development purposes in various fields. In addition to a diverse lineup of main units with different wheel drive systems and payload capacities, they are characterized by the availability of optional devices compatible with ROS 2 and various sensor options. The aim is to be a "truly easy-to-handle wheeled robot" for developers, allowing for a high degree of customization and modification in both hardware and software to suit research and development objectives and applications.

The "CAN Communication Option" being launched this time is an exclusive option for our company's research and development wheeled robot series, which equips the target wheeled robot with a control board compatible with CAN (Controller Area Network) communication. It enables the installation of motors and various devices compatible with CAN communication, allowing for the realization of more diverse and reliable robots.

Through the release of this option, Vstone Co., Ltd. aims to further expand the potential and availability of its already diverse and highly reliable research and development wheeled robot series, contributing to the acceleration of various robot development and social implementation.

(1) Adoption of a Control Board Compatible with CAN Communication

For this option, the control board "VS-WRC071" was adopted. It is equipped with an ESP32-S3-WROOM-1 microcontroller, and control programs can be created using the Arduino IDE. One CAN bus and two RS485 buses are provided, allowing for the connection of a wide variety of devices tailored to different applications.

(2) Compatible with ROS 2, Enabling Utilization of Existing Software Assets

The control board "VS-WRC071" for this option comes with sample code for various wheeled robots compatible with ROS 2 Humble. Existing software assets developed with ROS 2 can be utilized as-is, allowing for the continuation of flexible and open development.

(3) Benefits of CAN Connection Can Be Utilized

By utilizing this option, it is possible to install motors and other devices compatible with CAN connection onto the wheeled robot.
