Valuence Holdings Inc. (Headquarters: Minato-ku, Tokyo; Representative Director: Shinsuke Sakimoto; hereinafter, "the Company") announces that it has updated the calculation method for "Resale Impact," an indicator that demonstrates the contribution to environmental load reduction through brand resale.

Background of Contribution to Reduction Calculation and Our Initiatives

Contribution to reduction is an indicator that quantitatively shows the environmental value contributing to the reduction of greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions through the provision of products and services. In recent years, discussions on calculation and disclosure have progressed both domestically and internationally, but in many areas, standardized detailed calculation rules have not been established for each industry, and a unified method has not been established in the resale field.

Furthermore, luxury products such as watches, jewelry, and bags handled by the Company are durable for long-term use due to their high technical capabilities and quality. While recirculating these products through resale contributes to suppressing environmental load, their environmental value is currently not sufficiently quantified.

Based on this understanding, since 2021, the Company has been calculating and disclosing "Resale Impact" as an indicator to quantitatively show its contribution to environmental load reduction through its reuse business.

This time, in light of the progress in developing guidelines for contribution to reduction both domestically and internationally, the calculation method has been updated.

What is Resale Impact?

The Company promotes the circulation of products through brand resale, providing a mechanism that allows products to maximize their original usable life without ending up with a short lifespan. The Company defines "Resale Impact" as the environmental value that brand resale brings to society as a whole, quantitatively grasped and disclosed based on the calculation method of contribution to reduction.

About the Calculation Method

This calculation evaluates the effect of suppressing environmental load associated with new resource extraction and manufacturing, through the recirculation and extended lifespan of products via brand resale. In the calculation, the Company strives to utilize data that is as close to actual conditions as possible, such as actual product weight and transportation records, based on its transaction data. In addition, the years of use for major categories such as watches, jewelry, and bags are set based on the results of a questionnaire survey targeting "Nanboya" customers (3,947 valid responses).

The calculation methodology is based on the "Resale Service Contribution to Reduction Calculation Methodology" formulated by Zerock Co., Ltd., an LCA consulting company. Furthermore, this methodology has undergone a specialized review (peer review) by Professor Ichiro Daigo of the Research Center for Advanced Science and Technology, The University of Tokyo, a third party.

Scope of Calculation is as follows:
Target service: Brand resale service
Target product categories: Watches, jewelry, bags, cases, accessories, apparel, shoes
