Valeo Awarded Contract for Next-Generation Radar Technology by North American OEM

Valeo to Supply Next-Generation Corner Radar Suite, Comprising Hardware and Embedded Software, for L2+ and L3 Systems for a North American Electric Vehicle Manufacturer.

This new radar technology offers 50 times the resolution of the previous generation, enabling safety-critical functions and driving and parking functions.

The radar platform is built with modularity in mind, allowing OEMs to customize configurations according to different levels of automation (from entry to Level 3) and supporting future feature additions and upgrades via OTA (Over-the-Air) updates.

Valeo, a global leader in automotive technology, has secured a new contract for advanced safety technology from a North American electric vehicle manufacturer. Valeo will deploy its corner radar suite, including hardware and embedded software, for the automaker's L2+ and L3 systems.

This latest generation of radar is designed to enable life-saving, essential functions such as Automatic Emergency Braking (AEB), Lane Keeping Assist (LKA), and Safe Exit Protection (SEP). Valeo's radar system can also support "eyes-off" functionality, which OEMs can add in the future via OTA.

Valeo's radar platform is designed for maximum modularity. The American OEM will be able to customize its hardware configuration without increasing hardware complexity, offering driving and parking functions from entry-level up to Level 3 automation.

In addition to its technical versatility, the suite is built with global compliance in mind, enabling NCAP 5-star ratings and meeting General Safety Regulation (GSR) requirements.

Furthermore, the suite supports OTA updates, ensuring it continues to deliver optimal performance throughout the vehicle's lifespan.

Valeo's radar family redefines vehicle perception by combining extremely high sensitivity with high-performance computing and integrated artificial intelligence. Valeo offers both front and corner radars for reliable detection of even small objects, from short to long distances.

The front radar provides long-range vision, capable of detecting hazards up to 250 meters away, ensuring reliable object detection and safe navigation even at high speeds. These sensors drive critical functions such as blind-spot detection, lane-change assist, and rear cross-traffic alerts, as well as advanced parking functions, ensuring the safe maneuvering of autonomous vehicles in tight, low-speed scenarios. By monitoring the vehicle's blind spots, the corner radar sensors significantly enhance driver awareness and safety. During lane-change maneuvers, the system can actively assist the driver with visual, acoustic, or haptic warnings, and even facilitate fully automated lane changes. Furthermore, when backing out of a space, the rear cross-traffic alert system, powered by these sensors, warns the driver of approaching vehicles.
