Valeo, a global leader in automotive technology, has announced it has secured additional orders for its next-generation ultrasonic sensor 'USV 10.2' from a major Japanese automaker. The 'USV 10.2' is not only an evolution of previous ultrasonic sensors but is designed as an innovative product that will transform the future of mobility. Vehicles equipped with this next-generation ultrasonic sensor are scheduled to be launched in the Japanese market in 2028.
Key features of the product include:
- 600g weight reduction: Significantly reduces the size and weight of harnesses, contributing to overall vehicle architecture lightweighting and reduced environmental impact - Rapid installation at automakers: Simplified assembly enables shorter production line cycle times and reduced energy consumption - Smarter ADAS (Advanced Driver Assistance Systems) performance: Delivers robust, enhanced data to improve parking accuracy and enable cost-effective parking assistance and automated parking
Emile Saban, Vice President of Valeo's Brain Division for Japan/ASEAN Regional Operations, said: "Valeo's leadership in ADAS for over 30 years began with ultrasonic sensors. It is a great honor that our latest model has been adopted by a Japanese OEM. Valeo remains committed to making Japan's road traffic safer and smarter."
Valeo's commitment to the Japanese market is supported by a solid foundation. The Valeo Brain Division operates two R&D centers in Shinagawa and Tsukuba, and a manufacturing site in Inashiki City, working closely with Japanese customers to deliver high-quality products.
Having launched the world's first ultrasonic sensor in 1991, Valeo is a global leader in driver assistance systems, offering one of the industry's most comprehensive sensor portfolios. Valeo has produced over 2 billion ultrasonic sensors to date. By combining the 'USV 10.2'—renowned for its superior short-range sensing—with AI-based signal processing, parking assistance and automated parking functions can now be offered across entry-level to premium vehicle models.
The 'USV 10.2' began mass production for major European customers in 2025. Later the same year, Valeo secured its first order from a major Japanese automaker, with mass production scheduled to begin in 2027. This latest additional order from a Japanese automaker reflects growing market confidence in this technology.
