Japan Women's University (Bunkyo-ku, Tokyo / President: Satoko Shinohara) established the "JWU Career Life Center" in April 2026 with the aim of building a career education and career support system that responds to the diversifying needs of students and alumnae and the human resources sought by companies.

*JWU is an abbreviation for Japan Women's University.

With the establishment of this center, the university is promoting the creation of a new system that allows students to continuously return to the university for support from their enrollment through graduation. As part of this initiative, the first in a series of courses for alumnae, the "Coaching Practice Course to Expand Work and Career Possibilities" (6 sessions in total), will be held starting May 26 (Tuesday).

Coaching can not only be utilized for managing subordinates and teams but also for one's own career design as a "self-dialogue skill" that deepens self-understanding. This course focuses on acquiring "dialogue skills," and after understanding the concepts, objectives, and overall structure of coaching, participants will progressively learn specific communication techniques such as building trust, goal setting, questioning, active listening, and feedback. To make it easy for working individuals to attend, the course will be held online (Zoom) from 7 PM. Interested alumnae are encouraged to participate.

■ Main Initiatives of the JWU Career Life Center

1. Strengthening career education and career support for current students

In terms of career education, the current "JWU Career Subjects" will be systematically reorganized to build a curriculum that fosters thinking and practical skills for students to thrive in society. Furthermore, education incorporating learning for working adults cultivated through recurrent education programs will be promoted to connect to career formation after graduation.

In terms of career support, the previously dispersed support system across various faculties and departments will be integrated to provide clear support for students. Additionally, practical and effective career support programs will be developed by analyzing and organizing accumulated data such as individual consultations and information provision regarding job hunting, internship reports, job placement results, and "My Workplace Situation" introduced by alumnae.

2. Building continuous relationships and expanding support with alumnae

For alumnae, support for re-learning and career restructuring will be provided through the utilization of know-how cultivated in recurrent education programs and the expansion of career support courses.

Furthermore, collaboration with the Japan Women's University Education and Culture Promotion Oufukai, a general incorporated association of the university's alumnae, will be deepened to build continuous relationships between the university and its alumnae.

3. Creating new learning through collaboration with society

Information on reskilling measures promoted by various government agencies such as the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology, the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry, the Ministry of Health, Labour and Welfare, and the Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications, as well as companies, will be collected, shared, and promoted for collaboration. Utilizing the achievements of recurrent education and the knowledge accumulated by the university, the aim is to foster human resources who can contribute to society in various ways, with a view to building new programs for working adults in collaboration with undergraduate and graduate schools.
