CHICAGO & LOS ANGELES, March 24, 2026 – United Airlines (HQ: Chicago, CEO: Scott Kirby) today announced 'United Relax RowSM'. Relax Row is a new option that allows United Economy seats to be connected and used as a 'couch,' providing a more comfortable choice for passengers on long-haul economy flights. United is the first North American airline to offer this type of seating option and holds the exclusive rights to the design in North America.
The three seats dedicated to the new Relax Row feature individually adjustable leg rests that can be raised 90 degrees to seat-level, allowing passengers to lie down, stretch out, or enjoy a movie. It is an ideal choice for families with young children, solo travelers, or couples who want increased comfort at a United Economy price point. Passengers will be provided with special amenities including a Relax Row-exclusive mattress pad, a large soft-touch blanket, two extra pillows, as well as stuffed toys and travel kits for those traveling with children.
United Relax Row is slated for introduction in 2027, with plans to expand to over 200 Boeing 787 and 777 widebody aircraft by 2030. Relax Row seats will be positioned between United Economy and United Premium Plus, with up to 12 sections planned for each aircraft.
Andrew Nocella, Executive Vice President and Chief Commercial Officer at United Airlines, stated: 'As one of the industry's leading premium airlines, we are consistently committed to bringing industry-best new experiences to all our customers, and United Relax Row embodies that commitment. We believe passengers using United Economy on long-haul routes need options that provide more space and comfort. Relax Row is one of the ways we can provide that. United is the only North American carrier offering such a service, which is one of the reasons we enjoy high customer loyalty.'
United Relax Row is one of United's latest initiatives to provide a more comfortable experience for families traveling together:
・ Family Seating Assignment: United is the first and only airline in the industry to offer free seat assignments for children under 12 to sit next to an accompanying guardian at the time of booking. It also automatically reassigns families to priority seating if necessary to ensure they sit together.
・ Kids' Meals: On select flights, complimentary kids' meals are available for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. Guardians can pre-order favorites like French toast, chicken fingers, or grilled cheese through the United app or United.com.
・ Family In-flight Entertainment: A curated selection of entertainment for kids includes popular titles like 'Bluey', 'PAW Patrol', 'Zootopia 2', and 'Paddington in Peru'.
・ Children's Travel Kits: Created in collaboration with Sesame Street, these kits include Oscar the Grouch activity books, slide puzzles, and sensory stickers to keep children engaged while providing a more comfortable experience for parents.
