About the Karuizawa International Music Festival 2026

The Karuizawa International Music Festival is an annual summer event held in Karuizawa Town, Nagano Prefecture—a renowned international resort visited by approximately 8 million people annually. Originating in 2002 as 'Karuizawa & Music' through collaboration between local music enthusiasts and members of the NHK Symphony Orchestra, this will be the 23rd edition of the festival. Under the artistic direction of Mr. Haruo Yokokawa, former principal clarinetist of the NHK Symphony Orchestra, the festival consistently delivers exceptional performances by inviting top-tier artists from Japan and abroad, amateur orchestra players from the Greater Tokyo Area, and music conservatory students. It is widely recognized as one of the most historically significant and artistically rich music events in Karuizawa.
