ugo Inc. (Yugo, Headquarters: Chiyoda-ku, Tokyo, CEO: Ken Matsui, hereinafter referred to as ugo), which promotes the social implementation of physical AI, announces that it has quantitatively evaluated the dust emission from its inspection robots "ugo mini" and "ugo Ex" and confirmed that ugo mini is at a level suitable for operation in an ISO cleanroom standard Class 4 environment, and ugo Ex is suitable for a Class 6 equivalent environment.

This evaluation was conducted to provide objective criteria for determining operational feasibility to facilities considering the introduction of inspection robots into cleanrooms.

Background

Inspection tasks in cleanrooms face challenges such as the burden of entering and exiting due to wearing cleanroom suits, physical strain specific to the environment, and the complexity of record-keeping due to the prohibition of bringing in paper documents. Consequently, the need for inspection robots controlled remotely and by AI is increasing.

On the other hand, cleanroom cleanliness is stipulated by ISO 14644-1, and it is necessary to confirm in advance that the dust emission from equipment brought in meets the standard. For inspection robots, sufficient quantitative data on dust emission during operation has not been accumulated, leading to a lack of information for decision-making during introduction considerations.

To support facilities considering the introduction of inspection robots into cleanrooms, ugo has quantitatively evaluated the dust emission of "ugo mini" and "ugo Ex" using a method compliant with JIS B 9926:1991, and confirmed their suitability for each ISO class.

Evaluation Method

Following JIS B 9926:1991 (Method for measuring dust emission from cleanroom equipment), a simple booth for dust emission measurement was constructed using a variable-speed FFU installed in a cleanroom, and the amount of particles generated during the operation of each robot was measured.*

*Measurement condition details: Air velocity 0.37m/s, FFU face 1.2m x 1.2m, Airflow 32m3/min. Dust emission is calculated by P=(C−C_b)×Q (C: Particle concentration during operation, C_b: Background concentration, Q: Airflow).

Measurement Results

Product Name

Dust Emission

Applicable Class

ugo mini

67,845 particles/min

ISO Class 4*

ugo Ex

1,020,000 particles/min

ISO Class 6*

*ISO Class 4 is a high level of cleanliness required in semiconductor manufacturing lines, etc. Class 6 is a common standard for pharmaceutical and food factories, etc.

The difference in dust emission between the two products is thought to be mainly due to differences in body weight and drive structure. Both were confirmed to be at a level that could be considered for operation within a cleanroom.

Through these measurement results, ugo will evaluate the practicality of ugo mini and ugo Ex in cleanrooms and strengthen its sales system for products intended for cleanroom introduction.

● What is "ugo mini"?

"ugo mini" is an AI inspection robot that supports automation and labor saving in facility inspection sites, where labor shortages are severe. Equipped with a 4K camera with a telescopic and tilt mechanism and 3D LiDAR, it supports autonomous driving and AI-powered meter reading. It is also active in environments requiring quietness and cleanliness, such as data centers and precision equipment factories.

Since its release in 2025, cumulative shipments surpassed 100 units in March 2026, and it is working to solve the social issue of labor shortages through the automation of inspection tasks.
