UCC Ueshima Coffee Co. (Headquarters: Kobe City, Hyogo Prefecture; Capital: 100 million yen; President: Hiroshi Shibatani; hereinafter UCC) and Seven-Eleven Japan Co., Ltd. (Headquarters: Chiyoda-ku, Tokyo; Representative Director and President: Tomohiro Akutsu; hereinafter Seven-Eleven Japan) have jointly developed a new product, "Seven Cafe Hydrogen Roasted Coffee Iced R," which uses "hydrogen roasted coffee" that brings out new deliciousness, emits no CO2 during roasting, and contributes to decarbonization. It will be sequentially released at Seven-Eleven stores nationwide starting Tuesday, April 7.

UCC Group's purpose is "Unleashing the power of coffee for a better world," pursuing new possibilities for coffee and challenging to create unprecedented value. As part of its UCC Sustainability Guidelines, and as one of its initiatives towards "achieving carbon neutrality by 2040*1," UCC is focusing on the "roasting" process, which is essential for delivering delicious coffee to customers by bringing out the unique flavors of coffee such as acidity and bitterness through roasting green beans. They are challenging the initiative of hydrogen roasting, which emits no CO2 during roasting. In April 2025, they became the first in the world to start mass production of "hydrogen roasted coffee" with the large-scale hydrogen roasting machine "HydroMaster*2," and it will soon be one year since then.

In the joint development of "Seven Cafe Hydrogen Roasted Coffee," we aimed to achieve a new coffee taste that can be enjoyed even by those who do not usually drink coffee or who have a dislike for coffee's bitterness, by utilizing this roasting technology. Leveraging the precise temperature control characteristics of hydrogen roasting, as shown in the diagram, the temperature adjustment range is wider than conventional heat sources, allowing stable heat control even at low temperatures. By slowly roasting with low heat, we achieved a taste with less雜味 (unpleasant taste), a clear yet rich body, and a fruity, mellow acidity, leading to the launch of "Seven Cafe Hydrogen Roasted Coffee Hot" in October 2025.
