"Kesho-mawashi" are silk fabrics worn by sumo wrestlers around their waists during ring-entering ceremonies, and "somenuki-kimono" are kimonos worn by wrestlers of certain ranks during their entry to tournaments or on tours from spring to autumn. This book introduces rarely seen preliminary sketches, design plans, valuable kesho-mawashi preserved at the Sumo Museum, and photographs of sumo wrestlers in their attire, all with explanations (bilingual Japanese and English, 208 full-color pages). It also features interviews and photographs from the production sites of kesho-mawashi tailors, long-established kimono (Kyo-Yuzen) artisans, and shimekomi weaving workshops.
