Breaking medical conventions with science and engineering, we foster future "Biomedical Engineers."

The Institute of Advanced Biomedical Engineering and Science, Tokyo Women's Medical University (Shinjuku-ku, Tokyo; Director: Tatsuya Shimizu) is pleased to announce that applications for the "58th Biomedical Curriculum (BMC)" commencing in October 2026, began today, April 1st (Wednesday), 2026.
■ "Flexible Thinking" Now Required
With the advancement of a super-aging society and the societal changes experienced due to the COVID-21 pandemic, healthcare is now required to go beyond the frameworks of mere "treatment" and "prevention" to propose new social systems and ways of living. BMC has, for over half a century, been a pioneer in fostering human resources who bridge medicine and engineering, even before the concept of "biomedical engineer" became established in Japan. This curriculum serves as a "co-creation platform" where experts from diverse fields gather to tackle fundamental challenges in clinical settings, nurturing pioneers who will support future healthcare.
■ Three Features of BMC

1. Pioneering Medical-Engineering Fusion Curriculum: Based on the expertise of Tokyo Women's Medical University's Institute of Advanced Biomedical Engineering and Science, it covers everything from basic medicine to the latest engineering technologies.
2. Program Balancing Theory and Practice: Beyond lectures, participants develop practical insights through observations, practical training, and a "Future Medicine Seminar" where they set their own challenges, preparing them to be immediately effective in the field.
3. Strong Cross-Industry Network: The exchange among students with diverse backgrounds, including doctors, researchers, engineers, and corporate representatives, becomes a lifelong asset even after completion.
