Tokyo University of Foreign Studies Opens Applications for Summer 2026 Online Preparatory Japanese Language Course (OPJLC)

Tokyo University of Foreign Studies (TUFS, President: Nobuo Haruna) will offer the "Online Preparatory Japanese Language Course (OPJLC) for Students Studying at Japanese Universities and Graduate Schools" from August to September 2026. The course is designed for international students who are or will be enrolled as regular students in Japanese higher education institutions.

Established in 2021 as part of TUFS's mission as a 'hub for language education,' this program has been held twice a year (Spring and Summer) since 2023. This year marks the fourth consecutive summer session.

As international student recruitment accelerates in Japan, insufficient Japanese language skills at the start of enrollment have become a significant hurdle for academic success. As an 'Academic Japanese Education DX Hub,' TUFS operates this course with the following goals:

1. **Promoting Equal Educational Opportunity:** The course is offered free of charge to reduce financial burdens and ensure high-quality education for motivated students.
2. **Broadening Support via Digital Transformation (DX):** The fully online format (Live and On-demand) allows students residing abroad or in remote areas of Japan to access TUFS's advanced education.
3. **Social Contribution through Original Materials:** TUFS provides free access to its proprietary on-demand materials via the "TUFS MOJL" (Moodle for Online Japanese learning) management system during the course period.
4. **Facilitating Inter-university Collaboration:** Working with other universities to create a support system for their international students.
