Revival Screening Announcement
Filmarks, one of Japan's largest movie, drama, and anime review services, has announced a revival screening project for the masterpiece youth film 'GO' to celebrate its 25th anniversary. Directed by Isao Yukisada, written by Kankuro Kudo, and starring Yosuke Kubozuka, the film will be shown for two weeks starting June 12.
Commemorative messages have arrived from director Isao Yukisada, screenwriter Kankuro Kudo, and lead actor Yosuke Kubozuka. Additionally, recommendations have been received from writer Tsuyachan, journalist Michiyo Nishimori, and Japan Film University professor Han Tong-hyun.
'GO' will be screened in 73 theaters nationwide starting June 12, 2026.
25th Anniversary Messages
### Isao Yukisada (Director) A certain actress told me her son said, 'Mom, I found a really interesting movie, want to watch it together?' and played 'GO'. Having been filmed a quarter-century ago, 'GO' has taken on a life of its own, loved by many. I hope those who haven't seen it on the big screen will visit the theater with the excitement of discovering a new film.
### Kankuro Kudo (Screenwriter) 'GO' was my debut film script. Looking back, I feel a bit embarrassed by the structure, but Yosuke Kubozuka was great, Kou Shibasaki was lovely, and the cast was incredible. It really reminded me what youth films in the 2000s were like. It's a lifelong treasure.
### Yosuke Kubozuka (Lead Actor) "I'll erase the border lines." A quarter-century has passed since the release of 'GO'. It's very emotional to have a film that significantly influenced my own way of life be revived. I hope you will experience the energy and the timeless message of that time in the theater.
Recommendations
### Tsuyachan (Writer) It preserves the 'rawness' that is gradually being lost in the current era. Politics, violence, humor, and street life—elements that would be filtered out today are preserved here with their raw heat.
### Michiyo Nishimori (Journalist) The protagonist's rugged yet naive charm is explosive; we probably can't make movies like this anymore. Society has changed, but we shouldn't forget the past.
### Han Tong-hyun (Professor, Japan Film University) 25 years after its release, 'Japan as an immigrant society' has become more diverse. How much do 'Japanese' people really know about various people, including Zainichi Koreans, who are here? "I'll erase the border lines." These youths and these romances are all part of Japanese society.
