In 2025, 'Useful Ghost' (releasing July 10) made history as the first Thai film selected for and awarded the Grand Prix at the Cannes Critics' Week. Also chosen as Thailand's entry for the Academy Award(R) for Best International Feature Film, it has garnered unusual attention from international media, described as 'impossible to categorize' and 'strikingly original.' Today, the official trailer, narrated by Kentaro Tamura—known for his role in the Netflix series 'The Hellbound'—along with the main poster and ten scene photos have been revealed.
The story is set in Bangkok, Thailand, where air pollution is severe. March (Wisarut Himmarat) is grief-stricken after losing his beloved wife, Nut (Davika Hoorne), to a respiratory illness. One day, Nut's soul returns in the form of a vacuum cleaner, and the couple reconnects to confirm their love. Meanwhile, at the factory run by March's family, spirits of deceased employees have possessed the machinery, forcing a shutdown. Rejected by society and her family, Nut attempts to prove her love and her value as a 'useful ghost' by helping to exorcise the factory.
The trailer opens with the shocking scene of the deceased wife possessing a vacuum cleaner to return to her husband. It depicts their struggle and an unpredictable narrative filled with bloodshed. The line 'Don't think of me as just a vacuum cleaner' is particularly impactful. Narrator Kentaro Tamura commented, 'It is a beautiful scene, like a honeymoon on the other side. I was completely captivated by its fleeting yet raw quality.'
