TripX's Dream

TripX Inc. (Headquarters: Yokohama City, Kanagawa Prefecture; Representative Director & CEO: Takuto Nishimura; hereinafter 'TripX'), an AI startup originating from the University of Tokyo specializing in the accommodation and tourism sectors, aims to expand the potential of ryokan (traditional Japanese inns) with the power of AI and contribute to the realization of a tourism-oriented nation.

Japan's 'ryokan' are tourism resources that the world can be proud of, integrating local food, culture, and hospitality. To deliver the value of this ryokan culture to more travelers both domestically and internationally, we will promote operational efficiency and advanced management utilizing AI, creating an environment where ryokan can maximize their inherent charm.

Potential and Challenges of Japan as a Tourism-Oriented Nation

The tourism industry now occupies an extremely important position in the Japanese economy. In 2025, inbound tourism consumption exceeded 9 trillion yen (※1), growing into Japan's main foreign currency earning industry. The government has set targets of 60 million inbound tourists and 15 trillion yen in tourism consumption by 2030 (※2), indicating that tourism has the potential to become a core industry supporting Japan's future.

At the core of this tourism industry are approximately 50,000 accommodation facilities nationwide (※3). Among these, ryokan, in particular, are entities that condense and deliver the charm of their local area not only through accommodation but also through meals, hot springs, and hospitality, making them an integral part of the Japanese tourism experience.

However, the accommodation industry is facing severe labor shortages and the personalization of operations. Operational tasks such as aggregating reservation data, daily pricing, managing reviews, and handling inquiries consume daily time, making it difficult for ryokan to allocate sufficient time to their inherent strengths of hospitality and promoting local attractions.

Improving the productivity of accommodation facilities is essential for realizing a tourism-oriented nation. TripX addresses this challenge by making 'Ryokan x AI' commonplace.

※1 Japan Tourism Agency 'Inbound Consumption Trend Survey 2025 Calendar Year (Preliminary Report)' (announced January 21, 2026). Inbound tourism consumption in 2024 was 8,125.7 billion yen. ※2 'Tourism Vision to Support Tomorrow's Japan' (decided by the Tourism Vision to Support Tomorrow's Japan Concept Council on March 30, 2016). The same target is maintained in the 'Basic Plan for Promoting a Tourism-Oriented Nation' (Cabinet decision on March 31, 2023). ※3 Ministry of Health, Labour and Welfare 'Report on Health Administration' (as of the end of Reiwa 5 fiscal year). The number of ryokan and hotel businesses is 51,038 facilities.

TripX: One Year of Progress Since Founding

TripX was founded in April 2025 and celebrates its first anniversary this month. By immersing ourselves in the ryokan field and closely supporting actual operations, we have launched two products.

Accommodation DX Platform 'Tripbox'

Tripbox is an operational support platform that solves ryokan management challenges through 'visualization' and 'automation'. It consists of seven products, including a revenue dashboard that automatically reports reservation status and sales trends, competitive analysis that automatically acquires competitor facility prices and reservation numbers, review analysis where AI classifies and summarizes reviews and suggests improvements, and labor productivity analysis that visualizes productivity by department. Facilities can choose and implement only the necessary functions according to their scale and challenges. With members from the ryokan industry involved in development, we are committed to creating products that are truly used on-site, and over the past year, more than 20 facilities have utilized our services.

Inbound Restaurant AI Reservation Service 'RecRing'

RecRing, developed jointly with Hakone DMO (Hakone Town Tourism Association), is a service that addresses the 'separate accommodation and dining' issue for inbound travelers. In the Hakone area, approximately 70% of inbound travelers choose plans without dinner (※4), and there was a reality where they could not use local restaurants due to language barriers and unclear reservation methods. RecRing uses AI to recommend restaurants that match travelers' preferences and even acts as a proxy for phone reservations. It was also selected for the Japan Tourism Agency's 'Regional Revitalization Model Demonstration Project through Tourism DX Promotion'.

The Future We Want to Realize

We believe that ryokan play a significant role in ensuring Japan continues to be chosen by the world as a tourism-oriented nation.

As AI promotes operational efficiency and advanced management in ryokan, staff will be able to spend more time on hospitality for guests and promoting local attractions. Travelers from all over the world will be able to deeply enjoy local food and experiences without being hindered by language barriers. And ryokan of any size will be able to increase revenue through data-driven management decisions, contributing to the economic circulation of the entire tourism region.

Making 'Ryokan x AI' commonplace is the first step towards the development of Japan's tourism industry and delivering ryokan culture to the world. TripX will continue to refine its products and expand their deployment on-site to realize this dream.
