Trina Storage Signs Contract for 160MWh Large-Scale Battery Project in Kyushu

Trina Storage, a world-leading energy storage product and solution provider, announced the signing of a contract for a 160MWh ultra-high voltage energy storage project in Kyushu, Japan. Product delivery is scheduled for 2026, with commercial operation expected to begin in 2027.

The project will adopt Trina Storage's large-scale battery system, 'Elementa 2'. Each unit has a system capacity of approximately 5MWh and is based on self-developed lithium iron phosphate (LFP) cells. By adopting 314Ah large-capacity cells, it achieves both long-duration performance maintenance and operational stability.

'Elementa 2' has been developed to meet the stringent safety standards and compliance requirements of the Japanese market. It has obtained JIS8715-2R fire spread certification and clears major regulatory requirements for fire safety and system integrity required for grid-connected storage facilities. This includes fire spread prevention functions, system-level safety verification, and compliance with Japan's high-voltage grid interconnection standards.

This project will be executed primarily by the Japan team, in collaboration with global engineering and system integration teams. The 'Elementa 3 Flex' has an installation area of approximately 5 square meters, weighs about 13 tons, can be transported on standard trucks, and achieves low-noise operation (below 65dB), making it suitable for space-limited environments and suburban installations.
