"Beauty × Culture" - Japan's enduring beauty inherited from ancient times
'AKANE MAGAZINE' defines the essence of "J-Beauty" as "Beauty × Culture." The planning lineup is set with the concept of "reaffirming and redefining Japanese beauty." Furthermore, by utilizing various ancient documents, traditional crafts, and kimono patterns in graphic design, we propose new value and charm for "J-Beauty" optimized for the Reiwa era.
[About the Cover Design]
The red and orange design surrounding the photo was inspired by actress Kasumi Arimura's cool and sophisticated ambiance and her name. A part of the kimono pattern "Kurochirimenji Matsugasumiyou" (black crepe fabric with pine and mist pattern) was processed and transferred. This kimono, characterized by its pattern of pine and mist, has a dignified and serene design that we felt was perfect for the inaugural issue and for Kasumi Arimura, and thus adopted.
Featuring a luxurious cast of 8 actors active primarily in the film industry
From top left: [Kasumi Arimura], [Hiroe Igeta], [Anna Yamada], [Kotona Minami],
From bottom left: [Akane Hotta], [Ayame Goriki], [Fumika Baba], [Haruna Matsui] (Titles omitted)
Inside, 8 actors who resonated with the concept of 'AKANE MAGAZINE' gathered to showcase their Beauty & Fashion looks in individual 10-page features.
Deep, even deeper. Thorough interview coverage. And appealing Japanese culture through graphical composition.
Heisei, Showa, Taisho, Meiji... For some features, we trace back to the Jomon period, gathering various domestic and international literature to scatter profound and engaging content throughout one volume. Furthermore, we thoroughly focused on art direction to ensure it harmonizes well with the modern mood. The editing transcends the typical magazine, giving the impression of a photo album or an illustrated catalog.

Origin of the name 'AKANE MAGAZINE'
In this vibrant new era, we entrusted the name 'AKANE MAGAZINE' with two meanings: the desire to cherish important thoughts and a warm wish for the future.
Firstly, Akane-iro (madder red). It is one of Japan's traditional colors, a deep red cherished by people since ancient times. The special color extracted from the roots of Japanese madder has been detected in parts of textiles excavated from the Yoshinogari ruins, suggesting that Japanese madder may have been used as a dye as early as the Yayoi period. The character "Akane" also appears in many poems, such as in the 'Manyoshu.' From the meaning of shining beautifully in madder red, it was used as a pillow word "akanesasu" to refer to words that evoke light, color, or nobility, such as "sun," "shine," "lord," and "purple," often appearing in love poems with its impressive descriptive form. In modern times, it has become established as a color conveying the lyrical beauty of dusk, as in "akane-iro no sora" (madder red sky). A color that has been loved by Japanese people for over 1300 years, transforming from a dye to a word. Under this name, 'AKANE MAGAZINE' is born in the Reiwa era.
Secondly, "As Known As Nippon Element." Connecting the initial letters forms "AKANE." Literally translated, it means "things known as essential elements of Japan." Even beyond grammar, this phrase embodies our desire to shed light on Japanese performers, athletes, artists, and creators. We combine beauty and fashion as keywords.
