Ichibata Yakushiji Temple will solemnly hold the "Ancestral Bon Memorial Service" at the Okazaki Main Hall on July 5, 2026 (Sunday).

The Ancestral Bon Memorial Service is an annual event to re-examine our gratitude towards our ancestors and to feel the bonds of family and the preciousness of life through memorial services.

On the day, a Tanabata burning ceremony will also be held, sending wishes written on tanzaku strips to the heavens along with prayers. Additionally, as part of our community contribution activities, domestic summer vegetables, provided with the cooperation of local farmers, will be distributed free of charge to the first 500 visitors.

"Ancestral Bon Memorial Service" to Reaffirm Gratitude to Ancestors

Ichibata Yakushiji Temple holds 13 major festivals annually. These major festivals are special prayer ceremonies that deliver the wishes of each visitor as a "great wish" to the principal image, Yakushi Nyorai.

The "Ancestral Bon Memorial Service" held in July is a memorial service to offer renewed gratitude to our ancestors. The temple teaches that "descendants exist because of ancestors, and ancestors exist because of descendants." It is an important day to foster compassion and gratitude by reflecting not only on oneself but also on the connections with ancestors and family.

Send Your Wishes to Heaven with a Tanabata Burning Ceremony

After the major festival concludes on the day, a Tanabata burning ceremony will be performed. Tanzaku strips written at the temple grounds will be burned, and prayers will be offered for the fulfillment of everyone's wishes. This has become a summer tradition where many visitors write wishes for their families and loved ones and offer their prayers each year.

Furthermore, participants in the burning ceremony will receive free domestic corn, distributed to the first 100 visitors after the ceremony.

Free Distribution of "Domestic Summer Vegetables" to Support Local Farmers

Ichibata Yakushiji Temple values the place of prayer as an opportunity to deepen connections with the community. This time, with the cooperation of local farmers, domestic summer vegetables will be distributed free of charge to the first 500 visitors, prioritizing those who attend the major festival. As part of our social contribution activities, we aim to support local agriculture through regional specialty products while also conveying our gratitude to our visitors.

July Limited Goshuin Also Available

On the day, a "July Limited Goshuin" with a foil-stamped image of Jizo Bosatsu will also be available for 500 yen.
