A Rare Masterpiece by Modern Japanese Art Giant Taikan Yokoyama Appears at Public Auction

Tozai New Art Co., Ltd. will hold a public auction in Ginza, Tokyo, on June 13, 2026. The auction features approximately 200 carefully selected works across various eras and genres, including modern Japanese paintings, Western decorative arts, and contemporary art. The highlight is Taikan Yokoyama's "Reihou Fuji" (Sacred Mount Fuji), created in 1941. Measuring 95.0 by 143.0 cm (Size 80), it is one of the largest paintings of Mount Fuji he produced in his lifetime and marks its first appearance at an auction. Other notable artists featured include Bernard Buffet, Toshinobu Onosato, Lalique, and Emile Galle. A preview event will take place from June 10 to June 12 at the Ginza Swim Building.
