Press Release Information Title: Envisioning a "Suitable Future" from Local Memories Subtitle: Company Name: Industry: Body (first 8000 characters): DAS Chronicle Unveiled at SFTW2026
Toyota Coniq Corporation (hereinafter, Toyota Coniq) is publicly showcasing "DAS Chronicle," a new initiative connecting local history and future, at "SHIGA FUTUREs THINKING WEEK 2026" (hereinafter, SFTW2026), a future visioning event utilizing data science and art, held from Saturday, April 18, 2026.
Background
Much of the history and culture remaining in local communities has been passed down through oral tradition, not recorded in documents. While such memories are gradually being lost with time, they are crucial clues for understanding the unique identity of a place and envisioning its future.
Toyota Coniq has been promoting initiatives to visualize previously unseen changes and values and generate dialogue, using the "Data Art & Science (DAS)" approach, which combines data science and art.
This "DAS Chronicle" project is one such practical application, a new endeavor to envision a "suitable future" starting from local memories.
What is DAS Chronicle?
DAS Chronicle is a new approach to create a "digital historical scroll" to find a "suitable future" connected from the past, by recording and visualizing local history and culture and overlaying future perspectives.
In the two regions of Omizo and Arihara in Shiga Prefecture, detailed interviews were conducted with people knowledgeable about local history, collecting orally transmitted histories and legends. These local memories were visualized and digitized on the spot using graphic recording techniques, then converted into digital data for use as a tool.
Furthermore, by combining sounds and interactive experiences related to local episodes, it is reconfigured as a "digital historical scroll" where visitors can intuitively experience the continuous flow of time from past to future.
Exhibition Content and Experience
The created digital historical scroll is exhibited at the SFTW2026 venue.
Visitors are experiencing the continuous flow of time from local history to the future through display operations and sounds.
Through this exhibition, visitors are expected to re-evaluate "what constitutes a suitable future unique to each land" from their own perspective and gain opportunities to generate dialogue.
Expansion to the Region
This initiative will not be limited to the event exhibition but will be brought back to the Omizo and Arihara regions after its conclusion, to be utilized in creating platforms for dialogue with citizens.
By continuously fostering a process of envisioning the future together with local people, the aim is to create sustainable relationships and new value.
About DAS (Data Art & Science)
Data Science + Art = Data Art & Science (DAS)
DAS is an interdisciplinary approach that Toyota Coniq and Ars Electronica Futurelab have been working on since 2022. It not only analyzes data but also transforms it into "perceptible expressions" that stir emotions and generate dialogue. By incorporating this process into corporate and regional challenges, it generates new perspectives and accelerates the pace of transformation.
