toraru Inc. (Headquarters: Chuo-ku, Kobe City, Hyogo Prefecture) introduced its avatar service "GENCHI" (platform service) at SusHi Tech TOKYO 2026, held at Tokyo Big Sight from April 27 (Mon) to 29 (Wed), 2026, providing SusHi Tech Remote as a remote attendance route accessible from anywhere in the world. We are reporting on the details of its use by over 150 people.

Simultaneously, we are exploring early provision with enhanced features for SusHi Tech TOKYO 2027.

This initiative was realized in partnership with the Tokyo Metropolitan Government, which aims to attract international visitors.

SusHi Tech TOKYO, including its predecessor City-Tech Tokyo, is being held for the fourth time this year. It is a global innovation event originating in Tokyo that offers a comprehensive experience of cutting-edge technologies, focusing on themes such as AI / Robotics / Resilience / Entertainment.

Interaction between remote attendees and on-site visitors at our booth was realized, equivalent to real-time participation.

This year, for the first time, we provided GENCHI as a remote attendance route for SusHi Tech Tokyo 2026. The provision of this attendance route was made possible through a partnership between toraru and the Tokyo Metropolitan Government, which sought to attract visitors who might not be able to attend from overseas. It was offered to all domestic and international prospective attendees who found offline, in-person participation difficult, including business professionals seeking to use their time efficiently, young people with limited financial resources, and those on parental or medical leave.

Real-time Remote Participation from Around the World at SusHi Tech TOKYO 2026

The countries from which remote participants joined using GENCHI are as follows:

USA, China (including Hong Kong), UK, Germany, France, Spain, Singapore, Finland, India, South Korea, Oman, Latvia, Mexico, Indonesia, Malaysia, Thailand, Pakistan, Japan

* Participation was not limited to developed countries, but included a very wide range of international attendees, such as Mexico in North America, Latvia and Finland in Europe, Oman in the Middle East, Asian countries including India and Singapore, China (including Hong Kong), and South Korea. (The service provided instruction capabilities that transcended language, allowing participants to move freely within the venue.)

The participant demographics included entrepreneurs, support organizations, investors, media representatives, students aiming to start businesses, and companies ranging from SMEs to large corporations, as follows:

VC, CVC, Financial institutions excluding VC & CVC, Innovation-related companies, Startups, Media,

Research institutions, Government, Other large corporations, Other SMEs, Freelancers, Students, Others

* Over 80% of requests were from corporations, categorized as above, and 20% were from international and domestic students, indicating the high level of interest in SusHi Tech TOKYO.

Participants spent approximately one hour exploring exhibition booths according to their objectives. Despite being a remote exhibition, they engaged in various activities such as research and inspection, checking exhibited products, experiencing services, sales, consultations, exchanging business cards, holding meetings, pitching/listening to pitches, and participating in lectures.

Upon logging in from a distant location, the attendee was instantly at the exhibition hall, proceeding directly to the front row of sessions via a smartphone of a worker on-site.

An attendee using a wheelchair was also active, benefiting from the clear visuals provided by the external camera.

Voices of Participants (Remote Attendees)

"I explored the exhibition, interacted with 8 people, exchanged business cards, met old friends and new acquaintances, and even met someone who remembered me. The future, which allows for a sense of presence as if I were actually there and meaningful interactions, while saving a round-trip flight of about 15 hours, has already begun." (Founder, Startup, Finland)

"I attended in person on the first day, but couldn't make it on the second day, so I participated remotely. My purpose was to learn about various startups and to connect them with businesses in Ishikari City and Saga Prefecture, increasing touchpoints. This service is highly satisfying for those with clear objectives. The fact that KUROKO (an on-site worker) stayed close to the client, being a person rather than a robot, was a unique appeal." (Media Representative, Japan)

"GENCHI, where an on-site person acts as 'my eyes, ears, and hands,' is not just a remote experience but a means to reduce the 'uncertainty' in business decision-making, offering significant potential. Previously, I spent a lot of time attending conferences and visiting companies across South Korea, Japan, and the US. This solution is ideal for the initial phase of discerning 'what to check first,' 'whom to trust,' and 'when to go on-site.' I realized that global expansion is not about 'increasing travel' but about 'connecting with higher accuracy.'" (Company Representative promoting overseas expansion, USA)

Upon logging in, you are at the venue, ready to achieve your objectives. An on-site worker (KUROKO) provides assistance.

Voices of On-site Workers (KUROKO) at Tokyo Big Sight

"An investor from Thailand who logged in said, 'I want to introduce this in Thailand too,' and was very enthusiastic about experiencing the worker role themselves first." (Student, 20s, Tokyo)

"It was stimulating to be able to participate as a proxy at a large-scale international startup conference held in Japan." (Student, teens, Tokyo)

"It was fascinating to be involved in a truly vibrant international startup business conference. Depending on the participants' communication environment, some remote attendees were enthusiastically browsing booths, and various meetings were realized at each booth, which was surprising. The availability of remote participation made it truly international. Honestly, I didn't expect remote participation to achieve this much."

What is the Avatar Service "GENCHI"?

Have you ever had to give up on going somewhere you wanted to go?

If you could teleport, where would you want to go?

If you could exist in two places at once, what would you do there?

The avatar service "GENCHI" is an online mobility (future transportation platform) service that offers new choices and possibilities for travel, enabling virtual teleportation and objective achievement online.

A major advantage of traveling with the avatar service "GENCHI" is that anyone can easily achieve their objectives through virtual teleportation via a browser, even if they don't know anyone on-site.

For example, you can achieve objectives such as shopping (immersive commerce), networking, participating in exhibitions and events, sales, support, and repairs from your home or office. The system works by arranging for registered on-site workers to act as your avatar (clone) through requests made via the web platform.

Using smartphones, etc., it virtually reproduces sight, hearing, and touch (partially), and simultaneously allows you to achieve your objectives by borrowing their hands and feet.

Matching with registered on-site workers around the desired location via the platform. They act as the client's avatar (clone) to assist in achieving the client's objectives. (The client appears on the smartphone or tablet screen.)

By displaying the client's face on the worker's smartphone, it virtually teleports them to the desired location in real-time, enabling immersive experiences such as purchasing, interacting with locals, participating in remote exhibitions, exhibiting, networking, sales, and support, as if you were actually there.

Through GENCHI, we aim to realize "a world without disparities where everyone can move freely and live as themselves" and strive to "resolve global disparities." We aim to expand our avatar service "GENCHI" globally as an online transportation network to broaden the possibilities of movement. Currently, we have achieved up to three senses (sight, hearing, and partial touch), and in the future, we aim to achieve all five senses, including taste and smell, to provide an "immersive experience indistinguishable from being there."
