Tonic Printing Co., Ltd. (headquartered in Koto-ku, Tokyo; President: Mitsuaki Nishikawa; hereinafter 'TONICHI'), one of the world's largest newspaper printing companies, has reached the milestone of its 500th issue of the in-house magazine 'TONICHI'. Moving forward, the company will continue to prioritize a 'readable' print publication while also advancing its digital book initiative.
The in-house magazine was first launched on January 1, 1961, nine years after the company's founding. For 65 consecutive years, it has served as a key communication channel, delivering corporate policies, business activities, employee achievements, and internal events. Throughout its history, it has conveyed evolving management strategies and corporate culture while fostering communication among employees.
In 2018, the magazine underwent a major redesign: the format was changed from B5 to A4, and the title was refreshed from 'Tonic Printing Company Newsletter' to 'TONICHI'. Adopting a magazine-style layout with bold use of photography, the publication has strived to become more engaging and reader-friendly. It has featured numerous employee-focused initiatives, such as the 'Unsolicited Appreciation Letters' where staff express gratitude to one another, and family introduction features. Starting with the 500th issue, the magazine is now being digitized. A portion of the commemorative edition has been made publicly available, and past issues with preserved data are being retroactively digitized. These will be used internally as a searchable database, with plans to extend this convenience to external media.
Leveraging the expertise gained from producing 'TONICHI', TONICHI now offers comprehensive support for corporate and organizational PR magazines. From planning, interviews, writing, editing, and design to printing, the company provides end-to-end services for print publications. It also supports web and digital content creation, including digital book conversion of in-house magazines, development of web-based internal newsletters, and dedicated website production. By harnessing the strengths of both print and digital media, TONICHI supports enhanced internal communication and improved information dissemination for businesses.
