First Permanent Retail Sales of Design Newspaper 'Tsumu' Start - From World-Leading Newspaper Printer TONICHI

Design newspaper 'Tsumu', an upcycled product planned by the world-leading newspaper printer Tonichi, has started retail sales at the stationery and variety store 'Gatchan' in Koto-ku, Tokyo. This marks the first time the product has been available for permanent retail purchase, making 'Gatchan' the first location where customers can pick up and purchase 'Tsumu' at any time.

'Gatchan', which opened on May 3 in the Monzen-nakacho and Kiyosumi-shirakawa area, is a boutique stationery store focusing on items made in Koto-ku. The store promotes the charm of local craftsmanship by offering goods from local companies and artisans. It decided to stock 'Tsumu' after evaluating its potential for new uses, such as vegetable-specific newsprint, and its future expansion possibilities. This is the first permanent retail channel for the product.

Tonichi is one of the world's largest newspaper printers for a single facility, equipped with 10 sets of rotary presses at one location and printing over 90 newspapers with a maximum capacity of 2.3 million copies per day. During the newspaper printing process, a significant amount of unused newspaper paper is generated. 'Tsumu' is an upcycled product that utilizes this paper. Developed by the company, which has been involved in newspaper printing for over 70 years, the product aims to foster familiarity with newspapers. By utilizing the unique texture and softness of newsprint, the company proposes diverse new uses, such as for gift wrapping and preservation.
