Shichi-Go-San Mothers: 14.0% Wear Houmongi; Dresses and Suits Account for Approx. 75%

Rental Kimono MySelect (operated by LIN Co., Ltd. / Kani City, Gifu Prefecture) conducted a survey targeting 100 guardians aged 30s to 50s regarding "Clothing worn by mothers at Shichi-Go-San."

The survey results were as follows:

Dresses: 41.9%

Suits: 33.7%

Houmongi: 14.0%

This indicates that Western-style clothing was chosen by approximately 3 out of 4 families.

On the other hand, about 1 in 7 people wore houmongi, showing that a certain number of families choose to wear kimonos to pray for their children's growth, especially for such a significant milestone.

This survey found that dresses and suits combined accounted for 75.6%, indicating that many mothers opt for Western-style attire.

In addition to ease of movement and preparation, it is thought that more families are choosing simple Western wear with the idea that Shichi-Go-San is primarily for the child.

Still, About 1 in 7 Choose Houmongi

Meanwhile, 14.0% of mothers wore houmongi.

Reasons for choosing houmongi include:

Wanting to celebrate the milestone of Shichi-Go-San in a kimono Wanting to have more glamorous family photos Wanting to enjoy Japanese attire with their child

It is believed that the desire to "choose a kimono precisely because it is a special anniversary" is behind these choices.
