Kimono Rental MySelect (operated by LIN Inc., Kani City, Gifu Prefecture) conducted a questionnaire survey targeting 100 parents who have experienced Omiyamairi, focusing on mothers' attire.

The results showed that the most common outfit was dresses (37.5%), followed by suits (27.5%) and formal visiting kimono (houmongi) at 16.3%.

While it was once common for families to visit shrines in traditional kimono, the survey reveals that Western-style clothing has now become the majority choice.

Survey Results | Dresses Most Common for Mothers

When asked about the clothing worn by mothers on the day of Omiyamairi:

- Dresses: 37.5% - Suits: 27.5% - Formal Kimono (Houmongi): 16.3%

Combining dresses and suits, Western-style outfits accounted for 65.0%, clearly indicating their dominance.

Omiyamairi Attire Is Becoming More Diverse

Omiyamairi is a traditional Japanese ceremony to pray for a baby's healthy growth.

However, in recent years, changing family lifestyles and values have broadened clothing options.

Especially since Omiyamairi often takes place shortly after childbirth, many families choose Western attire for reasons such as:

- Ease of movement - Convenience for breastfeeding - Consideration for physical well-being

The Unique Appeal of Formal Kimono

Although formal kimono accounted for only 16.3% in this survey,

common reasons for choosing kimono include:

- A sense of occasion - Photogenic appearance - Traditional aesthetic fitting for a cultural ceremony

Omiyamairi is one of the few milestone events in family life and a rare opportunity to wear kimono.

Therefore, a significant number of families still choose formal kimono even today.
