Two Hakata Tokyu Hotels Receive '4 Gyoiko Sakura' International ESG Certification

Hakata Excel Hotel Tokyu and Hakata Tokyu REI Hotel (Hakata-ku, Fukuoka City / General Manager: Kenji Ikeda) announced that they simultaneously received the '4 Gyoiko Sakura' rating under the 'Sakura Quality An ESG Practice' (hereinafter 'Sakura Quality Green') certification on April 27th, which evaluates the environmental and social initiatives of lodging facilities.

This certification comprehensively assesses efforts to realize sustainable tourism, including environmental consideration, co-existence with local communities, and sound management structures. The '4 Gyoiko Sakura' is awarded to facilities that practice these initiatives at a high level, and it is a result of the various efforts that Tokyu Hotels has continuously promoted.

Sakura Quality Green is an ESG certification system for lodging facilities in Japan, operated by Sakura Quality Management Co., Ltd. Based on evaluation criteria consistent with the Global Sustainable Tourism Council (GSTC) standards—widely referenced as an international framework for sustainable tourism—172 evaluation items including environmental consideration, co-existence with local communities, and governance are assessed, and evaluated on a five-tier scale according to the degree of achievement.

To obtain this certification, the two facilities worked together to create new value for stays by incorporating the culture of Hakata, which has developed as a port city since ancient times. Both facilities feature interiors inspired by Hakata-ori textiles and the Hakata Gion Yamakasa festival, offering guests an experience of local cultural charm. Furthermore, they emphasize cooperation with the local region and promote initiatives that contribute to sustainable tourism.

Specifically, Hakata Excel Hotel Tokyu collaborates with local companies to participate in grass straw reuse projects, implementing policies that consider resource circulation. Meanwhile, Hakata Tokyu REI Hotel has adopted all-electric operations to reduce its environmental impact, aiming to improve energy efficiency and suppress carbon dioxide emissions.

Moving forward, Hakata Excel Hotel Tokyu and Hakata Tokyu REI Hotel will continue to further promote environmental impact reduction and sustainable initiatives while strengthening collaboration with local communities.
