109 Cinemas Premium Shinjuku to Screen 'Black Ox' with Music by Ryuichi Sakamoto for a Limited One-Week Run from July 3

Tokyu Recreation Co., Ltd. (Headquarters: Shibuya-ku, Tokyo, President: Tomoo Kimura) will host a special screening of the film 'Black Ox' at the '109 Cinemas Premium Shinjuku' located within the Tokyu Kabukicho Tower from Friday, July 3 to Thursday, July 9, 2026. The film features music composed by Ryuichi Sakamoto, who also supervised the acoustic design for all theaters in the complex. Additionally, a special screening followed by a stage greeting with cast member Min Tanaka and director Tetsuichiro Tsuta will take place on Saturday, July 4, 2026.

Special Screening of 'Black Ox'

The film 'Black Ox', which won the Firebird Award (Grand Prix) at the 49th Hong Kong International Film Festival and was praised as a 'transcendental and universal meditative experience', will be screened for a limited one-week period starting Friday, July 3. During this run, on Saturday, July 4, a stage greeting will be held featuring Min Tanaka, who plays a Zen monk, and director Tetsuichiro Tsuta, where they will share behind-the-scenes stories and episodes from the filming process.

This epic film utilized 70mm film—a first in Japan for some sequences—and took eight years to complete. Furthermore, the music was handled by Ryuichi Sakamoto, the acoustic supervisor for all the theaters at this venue. Audiences are invited to enjoy this work with the 'SAION -SR EDITION-' sound system, designed under Sakamoto's supervision to pursue the ultimate realistic 'unclouded sound'.

- Min Tanaka
Dancer and actor. Began unique independent activities in 1974. Developed a new style called 'Hyper Dance'. Made his overseas debut at the Louvre Museum in 1978. Conducted numerous avant-garde performances in former communist countries in the 1980s, gaining high international acclaim. Moved to a mountain village in 1985 and continues his dance activities based on agriculture. Made his film debut in 2002, winning the Japan Academy Film Prize for Outstanding Performance by an Actor in a Supporting Role and Newcomer of the Year. Since then, he has been active in film and television both domestically and internationally. In 2022, a full-length documentary about him, 'The Unnameable Dance' (directed by Isshin Inudo), was released. Appeared in 'PERFECT DAYS' (directed by Wim Wenders) in 2023. As of 2025, the film 'National Treasure' (directed by Lee Sang-il) featuring him is a major hit.

- Tetsuichiro Tsuta
Born in Tokushima Prefecture in 1984. His grandfather is Fumiya Tsuta, the legendary coach who led the Ikeda High School baseball team to become regulars at the Koshien tournament. Studied film at Tokyo Polytechnic University. In 2013, he released his feature film debut, 'The Tale of Iya', shot on 35mm film and set in his hometown's Iya region in Tokushima Prefecture.
