Tokyu Recreation Co., Ltd. (Headquarters: Shibuya-ku, Tokyo, President: Tomoo Kimura) announced that 109 Cinemas Premium Shinjuku, located within Tokyu Kabukicho Tower, will hold a special analog listening session and screening event for the album '1996' on Thursday, April 9th, to commemorate the release of the film 'Ryuichi Sakamoto | Trio Tour 2012'.

The special screening event, '1996' Analog Listening Session × 'Ryuichi Sakamoto | Trio Tour 2012' Screening Event, has been confirmed.

At our theater, equipped with the 'SAION-SR EDITION-' sound system supervised by Ryuichi Sakamoto, we will feature a special analog record listening session of the limited edition 30th-anniversary remastered analog vinyl of the trio album '1996', released by Mr. Sakamoto in 1996. For the analog record playback, we will use the professional-grade analog turntable 'REVOX T 77', which supports balanced output. The 'REVOX T 77' will be directly connected to the 109 Cinemas Premium Shinjuku sound system 'SAION-SR EDITION-' without any intermediate devices like interfaces, allowing for the reproduction of exceptionally clear record sound.

Following the listening session, 'Ryuichi Sakamoto | Trio Tour 2012' will be screened.

'1996' was Mr. Sakamoto's first album produced in a trio format, and 'Trio Tour 2012' is a visual work capturing his final trio performance. This is a rare opportunity to experience both the 'beginning' and the 'culmination' of his trio work at once.

In 1996, Sakamoto released the album '1996' in a simple yet highly expressive trio format of piano, cello, and violin. This world tour received rave reviews in various countries, with constant calls for encore performances.

Then, in 2012, this trio formation was revived in Japan for the first time in 16 years.

Sakamoto produced the album 'THREE' and held the 'Trio Tour 2012', a 12-performance tour across Japan and South Korea. The performers were cellist Jaques Morelenbaum and violinist Judy Kang. Both were the same members as on 'THREE', making it an unmissable trio.

During this tour, beloved masterpieces such as YMO's famous songs, 'Merry Christmas Mr. Lawrence', and 'The Last Emperor' were performed generously. In addition, reflecting the background of performances held in the Tohoku region, which was severely affected by the Great East Japan Earthquake, songs that resonate with Japan, such as the charity song 'Kizuna World' for Tohoku and the main theme song 'Yae no Sakura' for a historical drama set in Fukushima, were also included.

This work is a complete recording of the performance at the Akasaka ACT Theater in Tokyo, where tension and intimacy quietly coexist. The sound has been meticulously reconstructed to match the theater space, aiming to reproduce the atmosphere of the time to the fullest extent. Even those who have seen it before will likely experience something new.

About 109 Cinemas Premium Shinjuku

This is a new brand of '109 Cinemas' located on the 9th and 10th floors of 'Tokyu Kabukicho Tower', which opened on Friday, April 14th, 2023, in Shinjuku-ku, Tokyo. All seats are premium seats, approximately 2.3 times larger than those in typical multiplex cinemas. All theaters are equipped with the 'SAION-SR EDITION-' sound system, supervised by Ryuichi Sakamoto, which pursues an extremely realistic sound.
