Tokyo Ink to Launch Improved 3D Printer Filament 'Luminade®C 3DP Filament (PSFC-250)' with Enhanced Transparency and Plastic Scintillator Functionality on August 3rd

Tokyo Ink Co., Ltd. (Head Office: Kita-ku, Tokyo; President and CEO: Satoshi Horikawa) will begin sales of an improved model of its 3D printer filament with plastic scintillator functionality, "Luminade®C 3DP Filament," on August 3, 2026, through its e-shops on its official corporate website.

"Luminade®C 3DP Filament"

This product is an improved model of "Luminade® 3DP Filament," which went on sale in August 2025. By reviewing the raw materials and manufacturing conditions, transparency has been improved, and higher transparency can be expected even for thick printed objects.

While the conventional product had slight cloudiness due to manufacturing constraints, this product improves transparency, enabling clearer prints while maintaining the printability and scintillator characteristics of the conventional product.

This product is a filament for FFF-compatible 3D printers with the characteristics of a plastic scintillator that emits light when exposed to radiation.

It is expected to be utilized in a wide range of applications, such as prototyping and the creation of evaluation parts for research, education, and experimental purposes.

Background of Development

Through sales of the conventional product, we received requests for higher transparency.

Although the conventional product has scintillator functionality, slight cloudiness occurred, which could affect transparency as the size of the printed object increased.

To address these issues, we reviewed the resin composition and manufacturing conditions with the aim of improving transparency. As a result, we developed this product with improved transparency while maintaining the printability and scintillator characteristics of the conventional product.

This product enables new considerations utilizing the design freedom of 3D printing for prototyping radiation detectors and producing educational materials.

Tokyo Ink will continue to contribute to the development of new applications through material development in the research and education fields.

Improved Transparency: Transparency has been improved compared to the conventional product through the optimization of raw materials and manufacturing conditions.

Clear prints are possible, considering light transmission even for thick printed objects.

Support for Scintillator Applications: It is possible to produce scintillator parts for detecting radiation such as beta rays, and printed objects for educational and experimental purposes.

In addition to pellet and sheet types, it supports free shape design through 3D printing.

Free Shape Design: No molds are required, making it suitable for small-lot prototyping and research purposes.

It can flexibly accommodate complex shapes and custom designs.

Stable Printability: Polystyrene is used, similar to the conventional product, enabling stable printing.

It is suitable for reproducing shapes required in research applications.

Compatible with FFF-compatible 3D Printers: It can be used with general Fused Filament Fabrication (FFF) compatible 3D printers.

The filament diameter is 1.65-1.75mm, ensuring stable supply and printing.
